Alright well today I got done with the painting and external stuff. Anyways, Time to focus on the internal.
Now, I checked out Socket As and stuff from AMD, and socket 775s and stuff from Intel. I can't decide on what I would need.
Basicley, all this computer is going to do is hole maybe 2 or 3 thousand songs, and is just ment to go to lan partying.
Now At lans I don't expect to be playing Oblivion or anything, so It doesn't have to be top of the line.I want it to handle most game slike UT2004, BF2, stuff like that. I don't want to spend over $300 on the hardware.
So far I have a 200 Gig HDD for it,A PSU,And a Combo drive, so thats out. Basicley, I want an opinion, On what I will be doing, What would you guys recommend for me.
On the mobo and PROC, I don't really want to exeed $100.....Let me know what you all recommend.....

You should be able to get some decent 939 stuff for not very expensive now that AM2 is out, so I'd check out some of that.

think about the AMD proc. with free mobo deal at newegg. its one of the things in the right column. do that and get yourself $200 worth of the best videocard you can. ati X1900 series i would recommend, there are a few models around that price.

Yeah I definately wouldn't waste my time with any socket A stuff, especially with the great deals on 939 hardware. Whats your wattage rating on that psu by the way?

400 Watts. Not limited that much.
As far as AMD goes, I understand that its better then Intel, but Intel gives you more MHZ for the buck. I am convinced on LGA 774 or w/e its called or 478.

I would go for a 775 Intel Core 2 Duo E6300. Since you are playing BF2
They are $181.90 on Newegg

Like I said, I didn't want to pass over $150 for the MOBO and the PROC. The conroes are in my point for extreme gamers. And if I get good grades im getting a x6800 Conroe, but for a LAN. Somthing decent, not so crappy not so ultra gamer kinda....

here is my middle range reccomendation: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16819103539
get the processor with the combo deal with the best video card you can afford, either the x1900GT or the v1650Pro. the x1900 is WAY better for only a little more cash. gaming wise that processor is pretty awesome too. For a mobo to match this setup i suggest any of these: http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.asp?Submit=ENE&N=2010200022+1070907495+1073607587&Subcategory=22&description=&Ntk=&srchInDesc=
But a good brand like one of the ASUS, Abit, or DFI ones would be best.
If you dont mind getting some tech from the dark ages these would perform well for super cheap: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16813185073 its a crap board but it has a pci-e slot and therefore could make a budget gaming rig.
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16819103605 this is a good processor and the board that is comes with it for super cheap would work fine, even though you would have to find an AGP card to game with.

Yeah but see, you guys are giving me x1900's and stuff. I consider those extreme gaming. I need stuff like maybe a 6100 or somthing. Just barley making the minimum. I don't expect to be a primer player in Lans.....

The GHZ/dollar on previous generations of AMD vs Intel might be higher for Intel, but AMD has been able to do MORE in those less GHz (That's why they're popular, because a 2.2GHz AMD Athlon64 3200+ Measured up to, say, a 3.06GHz Intel CPU.
For real cheap prodoucts, I suggest getting a nF3 motherboard that supports socket 754, and then some decent ATi x800 or nVidia 66/6800 GT or Ultra.
Overclock the whole rig, and it'll run just about anything fine. Case in point: My rig =D. I can play WoW on full graphics settings with tons of addons and no lag in Ironforge (other WoW geeks will tell you that that's pretty good for older PC's at least) and i can run UT2k4 at respectable settings and BF2 stupid fast on low/medium.
So go forth, Go forth and build!

Or what you could do is just get a computer and moniter harness and take your home rig to LANs. I do thi ever few months to attend a UT2k4 DM Tourney that lasts all night.

Is that faster than a dual-core like a 775 Pentium D 2.66 mhz? The bus speed is about half as much and the caches is also half as much. It's about the same price as well. Just curious because this could determine what I get for my computer including motherboard.

Oh, Razor, btw,
Socket A is actually old as all hell. It's older than 939 and 754 even.
You mean Socket AM2. There's quite a big gap between A and AM2.

Razor isn't here anymore. He's banned for abuse of the rep system and sending insulting messages to the Admins. Not to mention all the worthless crap he posted on the boards...but never mind. Don't bash the guy. In a year, who knows? He could be as helpful as Tybrennis is now.

Eh, I'll be honest, i'm not too horribly suprised.
But then agian, i got banned from a webforum when I was his age for pretty similar reasons -- he's just gotta grow up a bit, is all.

Let's get this straight: Me, Rankenphile, and Crimson are all the same. We don't care if you're 10 or 100. If you can act civilized then you're welcome here.
None of us will ban someone because of their age. Half the people on these forums are under 20.

If you're going to go intel, go for the LGA775.

the math behind an AMD proc is differnt in clock cycles vs an intel, if an AMD had the same clock-cycle math, a 2.0 ghz AMD would really be more like 2.99ghz.. Kind of the difference between a 560HP V8 Hemi Charger (old school boys, like the 60's) vs. a 750HP V6 Supra (we've all played Gran Turismo 2 right?) The charger cna still definately hold it's own. My last AMD Processor was a K6-2 550Mhz.. It was faster in benchmark than its P2 clone.. anyway. I'm and Intel man lately, but I would definately not go socket 478. You are limited on boards, and pieces. there are NO boards ( well maybe 1 or possible 2) that are 478 that support PIC-e. I am currently running a P4Extreme H/T socket 478 @ 3.99 Ghz (o'ced) and I can't do anything with it in the next 4 or 5 months but turn it into my server or.... ***shudders*** give it to my wife..... LOL
-Jeremy
Actually the difference between a 550HP V8 and a 750HP V6 is quite obvious -- 200HP. Assuming the measuring method is the exact same (say, WHP on 2,000lb rollers), then the difference is only surface deep.

But the difference between a 550hp V8 and a 720hp V6,, if the measuring method is the exact same (is it when comparing AMD to Intel? maybe but not exactly), IS more than just whp on 2thousandpound rollers. There are cams to take into account, block sizes, raw torque, gear ratios, headers, etc. This all goes into account in procs. I guess the point is, Theres no telling which proc is the 550hp v8 or whatever, but one will get you there in raw torque quickly, and one will have the top-end. Although they both have the torque and the top-end.. Just the "grading scale" is different between the two.. I dunno.. Seemed like a good analogy when I went over it in my head... :dead: lol
-Jeremy BTW, great site.. I want to do a custom case mod, but I have to do all my research first. Just got through going through all of DaveW's stage 1 and 3 stuff.. Great ideas and info in there, as well as great work! Expect to see me hanging around for a while :)
Cam sizes, engine timing, cylinder bores, etc, all don't matter if you're calculating WHP under the exact same conditions. They're like the addends before the sum, you can compare corresponding numbers but that doesn't mean crap because the sum of one set is greater than another.
Now, say, if you compare the 750 peak WHP v6 at it's 550HP mark to that V8, I bet you that the RPM will be higher for the V6, but as I said before, comparing corresponding parts doesn't matter if the sum of one is greater than the other. It's still greater no matter how you look at it.
Now, with processors, the "measuring method" could be different, or the work per cycle could be. Either way, a 2.2GHz AMD64+ CPU will be just about a 3.06GHz or 3.2GHz intel CPU (All estimations are made on Athlon64/P4, the generation before last).
