My friend... is going to have me stand in line for over 7 hours to buy a PS3... then he's going to sell it for "massive" profit on ebay. Is it just me... or does this just seem like a bad idea? Or is it a good idea?
He also says there is only 400k in the us available and that since the XBOX 360's sold for alot on ebay when they first came out we should be able to get some pretty good bankage going on. He also said that the next release isn't until march 2007. Is that true?
What do you guys think? Good idea, bad idea, not really worth it? What?

Why are you standing in line while he makes a profit?

lol
no no.. im getting profit out of it. He works at best buy as well.. so he'll visit me every now and then lol

Screw your friend just sell it on ebay yourself. One for all and all for none.

Well... theres just one lil flaw in that plan. The PS3's are 600 bucks a piece and I dont have that kind of money. Fortunately he does but he can't wait in line because he has to work. Also just on a side note. He is my best friend who I have known since the dawn of time. So you know, we just kind of do crazy things like this for each other from time to time.
I'll have massive amounts of blankets and cushions and I will also have my Honda generator which is uber quiet. That way I can hook up my hard drive to watch a billion movies, the laptop to recharge, and a mini fridge so I have lots of beverages! :p
So in the end, it doesn't cost me anything, and I get profit out of it. ^^

Lol yeah no kidding... If I could fit my fifth wheel in line I would take it! It was 30 grand... so yeah! lol it's pretty darn nice! But I don't think thats an option lol.
Thats pretty much the plan though. He has Oblivion, FEAR, and a few other good games like that. He's also working on trying to get NFS Carbon.
If only I could hack the encryption at Best Buy! THAT would be awesome. Then I could play Online games... If I had WoW and a wireless card I could go for 12 hours lol.
**So what do you guys think? Is it worth buying and then selling on Ebay? How much do you think we will be able to make? The only reason why I am even doing this is because of the Blu-Ray. Which should up the price to at least higher than $600USD.**

It's completely immoral and i'm not for the idea. It's unfair to real fans and just creates a "only the richest can have nice things" society.
Then again, it's not quite as immoral as Sony's business strategy, which is pretty much asking for things like this to happen.
It's kind of like when someone buys a row of tickets to a gig then sells them on eBay. The real fans end up paying through the nose because of it, and it's not fair to them.

Tell me if you disagree but this is business now! If the people are 'real fans' they will cue in line and get one anyway rather than buy one off someone. I would wait to get three - one for me and the other two you would get enough profit to buy yours once you sell them.
Just my opinion lol

I can understand that. Being a person who only has nice things because of my own parents. They aren't even MY things. It's theirs, but I get to use them. So I do understand. But it's not like we are taking it away from people and especially people who don't have alot of money. This is the PRE release. Or at least thats what I would call it. The major release date is in march 2007. This is just for your major enthusiasts imo. Well... I am probably just digging a grave for myself lol so I am done, because honestly, I can't wrap my head around it like you can. But I want to say one last thing. If you can't afford the prices for the pre release versions on ebay, then get in line and buy it when it isn't so much. The world runs on money, and some people do have more than others, those are the ones who pay the ridiculous prices on ebay. They can afford it, and it give us more money. So I don't think it's entirely wrong. Bah, I'm done. lol I probably just said a bunch of dumb things, but I still believe if you want it, then get in line and pay for it like everyone else. If you can't, well then you'll just have to wait till march like most of everyone else.

EDIT:
Just one other thing... My friend isn't rich. He took up a second job just so this plan could work out. He worked hard for the 600 bucks to pay for it. So in a way... you could just say he is working smarter because he knows that there are people who don't want to wait either in line or for months and that have the money to pay up and in most cases don't mind (btw, not everyone is born rich, some actually do work hard to become rich). So it kind of equals out to me... rich people get less rich and poor people get less poor.

Thats actually what my best friends best friend is doing. He's buying two, but you can only purchase one so he paid one of his friends just like my best friend is doing to "hold" a position in line with me. Then he's going to keep one and sell the other one and hopefully end up in the "green" at the end of the day. Rich people can buy them off ebay (convenience = $$$) and people who aren't so lucky can wait in line or wait till march for the major release. Just my opinion though.

Exactlly! If people have got the money to buy it off someone else good luck to them but if someone really wanted it they would cue as well so its not really taking it away from the enthusiasts

I'm not judging anyone. I don't care if your friend is a serial killer, the CEO of a major corporation, or a homeless bum. I'll never judge you based on anything like that. I'm not going to stop you, i'm not going to think less of you. People make their choices and are entitled to their opinions. You asked for mine, and I think it's immoral, and that's simply where it ends. You don't need to defend yourself or your friends.

lol I know you weren't judging anyone. I guess I was just saying... that if you want nice things... then you got to work hard for them? It wasn't a message directed at you dave. I just posted it... I guess for myself? lol actually I am not sure why I said that...
oh well, I'm glad you dont judge people or think any less of them for who they are or where they come from. That definitely puts you at the top of my list of respectable people!
Okay next subject!
Any opinions or advice on stuff that I should bring for this 8 hour sit-a-thon!? lol
I've got this so far...
Generator
Laptop
Mini-fridge
warm clothes
lots of blankets and cushions
beverages and food
Hunting knive to defend from cheaters! lol jk jk

Take a book or two, mp3 player, food, clothes, a chair, and blankets. You don't need a laptop and a generator. That's a little over the top.
You're going for a few hours, not a few days.
Don't forget to use the bathroom before this as well. Don't want to be in line for 5 hours and have to leave.
This isn't a bad idea. My boss did the same thing with the xbox360. His explanation really made sense. It was that if you're wealthy and you have a spoiled kid who wants this thing, instead of standing in line for hours, just spend the extra dough(which doesn't matter much) and buy it off of someone who did spend the time waiting.
I wonder if this kind of fuss will be made over the Nintendo Wii...

From what I hear it's not so much about the Wii as it is Zelda. My friend (who has had his Wii pre-ordered since last year haha) said that the local game stores (his is ordered through GameStop) are still taking Wii pre-orders but Zelda has been back ordered for almost 6 months already, and they're only getting 20 Wii's at each store in our area! Which there's about 5 stores in a 40 mile radius where I live.
I just cant wait for Wii tennis! 8)
And for the subject at hand. Hey, if you dont have anything better to do, why not? You dont need a generator...just get you an extra laptop battery, make sure its fully charged and you should be good to go. Definitely bring an ice chest for food and blankets and maybe even a lawn chair. You should be able to "survive" for 7 hours having those things =P hehe.

Yeah, In all honesty I most likely don't need a generator. But I might make the local news if I do bring it! :P
The store manager lady said that she will be bringing us hot chocolate! YEAH! :D

You also dont want to be draging a mini fridge through the line up. You need to be light and nimble. Backpack and a folding chair is all you'll need. You'll probly get a kick out of the other nerds in the line. That can be your entertainment.

True dat...
The line won't be moving like a normal line would. There are only like 24 PS3's in stock at the store. So first come first serve.
I'm still considering the generator since I don't have any portable batteries with power outlets on them. The reason for this is, 1. I can then plug in my 200GB external that is LOADED with movies and complete episodes. 2. I can charge the laptop because neither of use thinks that it is going to last very long. And of course, if I wanted too, I could bring a mini fridge to keep things cold. But then again... What I just realized is this... IT IS ALREADY BUTT FREEZING COLD! lol So I don't need that. What I need, is something to keep me warm. AKA my portable tent heater! Which I could then plug into the generator! That way I can laugh at everyone because A. I'll probably have the only tent there because I am a pansy. B. If not, I highly doubt my "neighbors" are going to have a HEATED tent that used to be used to heat our entire cabin. I think the max on it is 120F. So... with that said. It's either the generator so I can keep warm or I find a really long extension cable and beg best buy to let me use it. ^^
THAT WAS LONG! lol
I'll have to bring a camera if I can and take some pictures of my heroic quest. :p
AH! I need to find a vid cam! That way I can make a blog.
Hour 1:
Its cold, Very cold. I don't know if I can make it. The nerd next to me keeps trying to eat my toes...

Instead of volunteering to stand in line for hours to get some electronic crap, why not volunteer at a Food Pantry or homeless shelter on Thanksgiving day. THAT, my friend, would be heroic.
You won't need to bring a generator, or batteries, or DVDs. Just bring your sense of humility and compassion for your fellow man.
This mostly American obsession with games and toys and "Must have" plastic crap is really getting out of hand. :D
