Hi Guys;

I have finally sat down and figured out what I think I want my computer to be (not the toxic mod, I mean my uber puter! ) Do me a favor if you get the chance, check out my lineup and let me know what you think...

CASE: Thermaltake Armor series VA8000BWS : I will not be getting it right

away to save money but there is an optional side window panel with

a 250mm fan.

Zipzoomfly has it for 150 / 25 rebate / costs 125

COOL: The case does come with built in fans, I have extras, and since I am

not overclocking (yet) the stock cooling of the case and a core 2

duo should be fine

MOBO: Gigabyte GA – 965P – DS3 Express for LGA 775 : It has lots and

lots of features, it’s purty, and it looks like it will be able to hold it’s

own for a little while so I don’t get out tech’d next week.

Zipzoomfly has it for 150

PROC: Intel Core 2 Duo Conroe 2.13 GHz LGA 775 : I am hearing lots and

lots of good things about the core 2 (and not just from my good buddy Keith)

Zipzoomfly has it for 222 and CompUsa has it on sale this week for 209

RAM : Corsair twin matched 1GB = 2 Gb 5400 C4 : Supposedly they

actually match them and test them together and then wrap the

tested pair immediately after testing.

Zipzoomfly has it the pair for 258 / 40 rebate / costs 218

VIDEO: PNY GeForce 7950 / 512Mb / GDDR 3 : It has everything I think I

need it to do at a reasonable cost.

Tigerdirect has it for 299

AUDIO: The modern motherboards all have pretty decent onboard sound

so I will go with that and if I hate it, save up for a decent priced

soundblaster.

HDD : I have a 160 Gb SATA

CD/DVD: I have a CD/DVD – R / RW

INPUT : I can use a generic mouse and keyboard and save until I see some

awesome thing I just HAVE to have

Okay, as I see it, this system costs me 1014 and most of the stuff from zipzoomfly has free shipping.

Sounds good to me. I don't see anything wrong with it.

But have you checked Newegg? A lot of that stuff I think Newegg might have for cheaper (Zipzoomfly I'm not sure, but Tiger Direct I know you get find lower at Newegg)

I look at zipzoomfly after newegg. If newegg prices is alittle more then what I can find on the net, then zipzoomfly will have it the cheapest.

Your case, the one I am modding now :) is great! Alot of room and just right for what I need. I saw the window that your talking about when I was buying my case.. I just thought it wasnt needed really, but hey thats my opinion, do what you want.

Psh, That looks like a pretty decent setup man! I compared a few things with zipzoomfly and newegg. They seem to be pretty much the same other than that newegg charges for shipping. So this is how it rolls down for me. You can go with zipzoomfly and get free shipping. I have always heard good things about them but have never personally tried them out. yet at least. Or you could go with newegg, pay the extra shipping (or maybe just on a few things) and get that oh so excellent service. But if you are tight on money I would say that zipzoomfly is fine.

Also, we are getting the same mobo's! WOOT! I was also thinking of getting a conroe, but I've decided to wait and see which one I will be able to get after making a Christmas WISH list. I'm hoping for E6600 but we'll see how that goes.

One other thing... check this out instead of your GPU from tiger.

Good Luck and Happy Modding!

I would go with the EVGA card from the link that SnowFire gave above. I love EVGA and they got a Step-Up Program in case you decide to upgrade within 90 days.

zipzoomfly is crap. don't order from them unless you have complete and utter faith that your order will be 100% correct, because their customer support is nonexistent. :)

newegg, on the other hand, is win.

(this isnt just crap talking, i was involved in computer purchases of 5-10k/month for 4 years at my last job. i'll never use zipzoomfly again.)

Thanks Snow & AJ, that's exactly the kind of help I was hoping for...

Is that the C2D E6300?

if you are getting those lower 6300 or 6400 Conroes, you really should go for a small overclock. The gain per temp increase for the lower end conroes is just too good to pass up. You'll only need an above average for the CPU. Plus, it can't really be an "uber puter" unless you OC it :)
