Hey, its been a while since I posted here. Formated my computer a couple of times, and just found back my favourites, eh :)

So now, my friend gave me his old flash memory stick/MP3 player, it's a SmartDisk Rover R128.

http://www.unityelectronics.com/images/products/unityelectronics_big_prod_id_3342.gif

The MP3 player doesn't really work anymore (will randomely shut down shortly after turning on, battery powered or USB) but I noticed the 128Mb of flash memory is permanent, which is really useful in my case. So basically, I just got a 128Mb USB stick, with half of the cover missing, and it's working on the PC.

I was thinking about doing a small mod to it, something that could be useful. Maybe I could buy one of these USB extension wires, tie it to my keyboard's cable and put some LEDs in the flash stick so it could work as a USB lamp (Id use a switch to turn it on/off) to light the keyboard when it's dark, and by the same way still be able to use it as a flash stick.

What other things could I do with that flash stick? Useful or no, jsut send me ideas. The USB jack on it is pretty free of everything and it's fairly easy to solder something on it without many problems, Id only need to find out which lines are the power line/ground. Any ideas are welcome, Id like to do something with it other than keeping it as it is :)

Of course, 57 views and no replies yet.. thanks for the help, and you're wondering why there is no mods made in the forums? Of course it ain't my computer case, but it helps me in liking my environment better..

I've got an idea.

How about, you paint it white.
Load up a short classical music mp3 into it...
attach a small speaker...
Press "play"
some LEDs... blue, preferably
And call it The Chill Pill.

What you think? ;)

Thatd be interesting, but I dont need extra cooling at the moment (stock air, CPU is running at 45C full load, its overclocked from 550MHz to 781MHz, LOL)

psh? whats that?

and well, im probably going to do something esthetic with that, and not too big since i need to bring it at school to put files on it

The cooling is for The Chill Pill.

Your computer is fine! :)

"psh" === like an expression. "phonetic".
Doesn't stand for something.
(here I go:::: power supply housing. power systems handle. powerful & sexy H. plenty of sex happening. purposely swaying headlights. plenty of santa's helpers. pointless serial hacking. ENOUGH!)

RE: Your Chill Pill... dude! With classical music, it's gonna be perfect for school!!! :)

Peace guys

LOL

I already said the MP3 player on the memory stick doesn't work anymore (will randomly shuts down shortly after being turned on), and well I dont really think that memory stick needs cooling.... since it's already pretty much air-cooled (the rear panel is broken and removed) :) And the inside space is pretty little to allow me any "extreme" mods on it.

If the mp3 player doesn't work, why not cover the lcd screen up, patch up the end, and paint a symbol or name you use often? No reason to have it look like an mp3 player if that's not usable.

Also, have you considered upgrading the firmware? Could that fix the mp3 player problem?

I'm thinking taking the ram chip out and putting it into something useful, like a mem card for an xbox (wiring directions at http://www.xbox-scene.com/.

I don't think upgrading the firmware would correct the problem, since that thing happened, if I remember correcly, happened all of a sudden (one day working fine, the other day stopping without any warning) and there is no sign of shorting in the device.

And well, I dont think I need a 128Mb of memory card for my xbox, since I dont play often, and im being happy with my hard drive. And in case I want such a memory card, ill just modify one of my ports and turn it into a USB port, then use a memory stick for it.

The Pez mod is not bad, pretty original, but not in my ideas... lol :)

Probably going to use a small switch, and some 1.5V bright white LEDs and use it as a USB lamp. Im still thinking about what I could do.

I must first get the sucker to run under my W98SE rig, sicne I want to send new MP3 files to my other MP3 player (under my XP rig my software wont work), and that rover stick memory won't work on my computer :( gotta ask SmartDisk techs for help.
