Alright, time to do a contest. To win you have to tell us the naughtiest thing you've done this past year and then tell us the nicest thing you've done this past year. The best story (I really don't know if you're lying or not) wins the following:

Green Aspire X-Infinity case, Brand New in Box

http://img139.imageshack.us/img139/9890/x1nx3.png

The winner will be notified via PM and within this post on the 24th of Dec. You must be a board member of TBCS and in good standing with at least 25 useful posts. All are invited to play: Moderators and staff welcome (except me).

So POST!!

Nicest thing : I helped some guy out with his programming assignment at college. I didn't get it working, but I did attempt to help. His layout was all screwed, so we had no idea what was missing, and where it was missing

Naughtiest thing : I am not a naughty person :P Probably the naughtiest thing I could think of is I forgot to post something for someone, for 2 weeks :P I did refund half the price of what I sold them though :P

Naughty: Well despite that I regret it now, I ditched my best friend when he needed me to wait in line for a PS3 at Best Buy (which was really important to him). It was supposed to be 6-8 hours but then it turned into 48-56 hours of waiting in line. Which doesn't justify abandoning him at all. Even though I was tired and cranky because he called 13 times in a row, ticking off my parents, which ticked off me. (I did call him back 4 hours later asking if he still wanted me to come down, but he took some days off of work, which isn't good because he just moved out.)

Nice: The nicest thing that I have done all year is being a true blue geek. Whenever my father or my younger or older brother as well as my friends and distant family (<-and a few of their friends) have troubles with there PC's and Laptops, I come running to the rescue! ...well actually they come running to me because I am free lol But still, I choose to help them anyways. (some more than others *cough* younger brother *cough*) ;) *Tip: Google is a great way to fix computers when you are not sure of what to do or what the problem is. ^^

Nice: I was in the local Halfords (car accessory shop) and there was an old timer buying a headlight bulb. They have an installation service, but they charge based on the value of the part. He was moaning about the cost, but the cashier couldn't do much about it, only sympathise. So I offered to fit it for him.

He bought the bulb and we went to his car. Upon looking into it, I discovered that the wire had fallen off his existing one, which was fine.

I fixed it and told him to go back inside and get a refund. He was delighted.

He offered to pay me but I declined, telling him to give it to a charity if he felt I deserved it. I didn't need the money, I was already feeling really good inside about such a small thing bringing such delight to an old guy.

Naughty? Not really.

(BTW, I don't actually like that case, so I hope I don't win...)

Nice: Oh god, tons of things. I can't really pick one, so i'll list some general stuff. I often give money that I have earned to my mother when she needs it (same goes for friends and other family members), I help people carry heavy things, I'll fix people's things (if i know how and they ask nicely), general stuff like that. I'm also getting better at holding my tongue -- not syaing things that could make people feel bad or worse about something.

Naughty: Uh, I can't think of much, really. I'll have to get back to you.

EDIT

Naughty: Ahh, now I remember. One day me and a couple of friends were testing making some bombs (no pyrotechnocs however, all just Baking soda and Vinegar) in half pint water bottles. After we fiured how to make it a controlled detonation (it basically wouldn't go boom until we wanted it to, or a few seconds afterwords), we made up about 5 or so, and got them ready to throw (think home-made frag grenades, but less potent. Still loud, though). We hid near an elementary school and tossed about 2 or 3 of them into a field near some small kids (not near the kids, but kinda close). They went boom, and the kids wen't running. I laughed so hard, I literally pissed myself. The other "bomb"s we had, we took to a dumpster then detonated them inside there.

Nice: well about a month ago now, i wrote an english term paper for someone. they ended up getting... 87% i think it was. and you know what? i still havent been paid back. probably a good thing though... i can call in a favour now.

Naughty: im using my newfound organic chemistry knowledge to try and discover a home made high power explosive. its not that easy... ive basically got alcohol, vinegar, acetone, bleach, hydrogen peroxide and a few other oxidizing agents to work with. i keep getting ketone and aldehyde end products which arent very helpful. i could use some muriatic acid (i think thats how you spell it). muriatic is used for cleaning cement, and its basically weak hydrochloric acid. if i had hydrochloric, i could whip up a simple reflux apparatus, and make either DPPP or trimeric AP. both being super power explosives. something like 10-15 times as powerful as dynamite or C4. crystalline and very stable too.

ok this one im actually going to put out a strong warning on. dont let me give you any ideas. even though DPPP and trimeric AP are stable, the process of making them is super UNstable. at one point you have to keep the temperature constant while adding a component, and a rise of even 2 or 3 degrees will set off a massive acidic boilover. only problem is that its an exothermic reaction, so you need a huge ice bath and a very good thermometer... not to mention nerves of steel. ive found documentation about that particular drawback... the aftermath is terrible. but hey, its the holy grail of organic chem to find something like this, and its hard to do, so im trying to do it.

<EDIT> snowfire supposes i may be giving away too much information about making DPPP and trimeric AP. so just to clarify, ive listed way too many ingredients there, but im not going to say which ones are useful, and im definitely not going into any more detail about the steps involved. its a finicky process and you need to have it just right, so unless you find something on google somehow, you cant piece it together from what ive said.

Nice:
Helped people out in ways I can. I helped people with thier PC related questions at Micro Center even though I don't work there. My friend got a job and didn't have any attire that was according to the dress code. He also didn't have any money. So I bought him over $100 worth of dress shirts and pants. He probably thinks that I forgot, but I still remember. But I don't mention it because I decided that it was on me. This same friend was very hyped up for Gears of War (Xbox 360 game) but he was broke. He didn't get his paycheck until a week later and didn't get his credit card yet. He waited one day already, restraining himself til after midterms. But he couldn't wait any longer. So I bought it for him.

Naughty:
I don't think I have done anything naughty. The worst thing I could think of (which isn't that bad I hope...) was not coming home to visit my family and friends enough. Nothing explosive for me, honestly!

Okay first is the nice... which I got punished for??

*** I witnessed a guy kicking in the front door of a store and then running away, so I called the police, followed the guy to the bar he went to, told the bouncer what was happening and had HIM call the police, then I handcuffed the guy (never mind why I had handcuffs in the car, my wife and I are freaks), escorted him back to the store and waited there as a witness for the police.
Well, it turns out that Florida does not recognize citizen's arrest and so since I had brought the guy from point A to point B against his will, I was arrested for kidnapping and spent 9 days in jail before the state decided not to prosecute and released me.

Now for the naughty:

*** My wife and I got into a bit of a spat about me spending too much on SCUBA gear, so I applied for another credit card (we already have too many) with a 5K limit, and maxed it out on all the stuff I wanted. She still doesn't know and every free cent I get is going to pay that off but without letting her know so I have to keep getting money orders and paying the bills that way because if it comes out of our bank account she'll know!

As for me, I can't think of anything right now. It's midnight and I'm tired.

Minty you are a great person, you deserve alot more than just a computer case. Maybe some kind of citizens medal of honor or something like that. Thanks for awnsering the call for help from your fellow Americans and brothers and sisters of this planet! I know alot of people who just sat by and pretended that it didn't happen. Makes me all warm and fuzzy inside thinking that there are people like you!

You get the highest award I can give you!

Minty -

You are a true hero I my eyes. I live in England so there was not that much I could do at that time - I had alot of problems in my life with my family. If I could be there I would. I cried for hours after hearing about that - I wear my heart on my sleave. Same with 9/11 - I wish I could help and I cried for days after that.

Thankyou minty for being a true gentleman of this planet, for helping our brothers, sisters and maybee even our family.

Naughtiest thing:
There's a kid in school, that's very upset with his weight. Whenever he feels mad about himself, he pulls out this tape, and listens to it and it calms him down. Me and a couple friends of mine got a hold of that casette tape and re-recorded over parts of it.

One day, he started to listen to it in front of me, James and Chad. (my two friends) He got verrrry upset and left the classroom as we were laughing our asses off.

When we had the tape, we recorded our voices, modified, and the tape said, "You're a very warm, nice, FAT UGLY PIECE OF ****!!! You... HAVE NO FRIENDS OR A LIFE YOU F**KING FATASS!! Your... HEAVIER THAN THE HOOVER DAM, TRIPLE-CHIN!

Nicest thing:
My sister needs a new desktop computer, so I bought her one for Christmas instead of buying myself new tires, that I kinda need.

Dude. TGS, does the naughtiest win something too? Wow dude, that's just way mean! That kinda **** makes kids commit suicide. You should apologize before he pulls a columbine or something. (I don't mean to sound like an ass or disrespectful, I'm being dead serious about the columbine remark, that's not something I joke about.)

I used to have a friend like that - kids did similar things to them and one day they couldn't take it anymore and took their life.

Anymuways. Maybe I'll find something naughty/nice that I've done. Theres plenty of community service etc., but nothing too naughty. I'll think on it.

Zephik
11-26-2006, 11:34 PM
My guess, if I ever had one, is he is the way he is because of the way people treat him. Because he "deserved it" doesn't justify what you did. Do you think he is going to become a better person because you and everyone else like to make fun of him? Here's an idea, how bout you apologize to him and maybe try and be his friend! A guy like that probably needs a good friend. NOT people being immature punks to him because "he deserved it" when in actual reality he is the way he is BECAUSE you and other people make fun of him. Grow up dude.

TGS, sorry for taking over you thread. Usually I am a PM kind of guy, but this felt a bit more personal then usual. Anyways, I apologize and I hope we can get back on topic here soon! Thanks for offering us such a cool contest!

If I even had a chance to win it after minty's post, I would chop the car thing off, paint it pink, and give it to my best friend (female) for Christmas with my old dell inside of it since she is in a need for a computer and can't afford one herself. Pink computer's rule! :p

Ok, come on. Spare me the tree-hugger talk. Now don't take this post as being rude, and don't take it personal, but you don't know half the story.

He's just a dick; he's always been. He doesn't have mental retardation or a troubled family. His family is average, and he's the only unathletic one in his family. That's his choice.

Besides, I was his friend, 6-7 years ago. He was always playing videogames, and never went outside. Goes on the internet 24/7, instead of actually taking school, or for that matter, his future seriously. In 6th Grade he discovered porn, and he's told me he has 3 filled drives, and was gonna offer me one at a "lowered price," just for me; how thoughtful.

Suprisingly, this one girl, Samantha, in 6th grade actually liked him. We wanted him to get together with her, beecause she was one of the nicest people I've known. You wanna know what he said?
..."She's not for me; she doesn't even have any tits; I don't want her."

James and I got mountain bikes in 8th, and wanted him to go into the woods with us. We even knew he had a bike, and we knew he could ride one. But, he blew us off everytime, because his self-indulgence of internet and games is more important than his friends, and he's still that way. Now, on to the issue about that tape.

He had a crush on this girl named Sarah. Sarah, she was hot. He asked her to a dance at school in 9th, and got turned down, big time, in front of a lot of people. She even laughed, and brought up that issue about his weight. Well, that kinda threw him into denial, as it would anybody else. He was also pissed off at himself for letting himself go. Went to a psychiatrist that gave him a tape to listen to when he gets upset.

Now, that was three years ago that he got that slap in the face from reality. But, has he done anything about his weight? Any slight god damn thing to fix it? Nope. He sits at home afterschool, plays his Xbox, eats everything unhealthy in that house, and goes on his computer until 11 or so everynight.

You and many other people are the forgiving type, and that's a good quality. But sorry, that's not how I look at life. As far as I'm concerned, he's been letting all of this build up on himself, and it all came crashing down on top of him. I show, nor have, no remorse for people like him. He's had his chances to better his life, but never took the chance to right himself out of a bad lifestyle.

I don't think that makes me a bad person. If stuff happens, big deal. Pick yourself up, dust yourself off, and fix the problem. NOT go back to the lifestyle you've been living and expect it to somehow get better.

Admins:
I'm sorry this got so off-topic. This has gone far enough, I'm done with that story.

If anyone still wants to argue that he doesn't deserve that happening to him, just PM me and I'll give you even more about his life.

Edit: Delete this post if you want. It's really off-topic about naughty/nice.

naughtiest: My friends and I slapped a sign on this morbidly obesse girl at our school that read "I can't believe it's not diabetes", and she walked across a campus of 4,000 kids without noticing.

nicest: I worked at Camp Cherry Valley on Catalina Island for my whole summer, and taught kids lifesaving, sailing, canoeing, rowing, and swimming. And I helped this one kid pass his swim test by waiting in the water for him to jump in for an hour and a half.

Naughty: An anonymous guy was spamming my clan's forums with porn because we banned him for stat padding. He used an anonymous web proxy to conceal his identity and posted only as guest.
What he didn't realise was that two of the photos he posted were pointing at the same photobucket account.
I searched myspace for the same username as the photobucket account and came up with his myspace page, on it was the same photo of the car he'd posted earlier so I knew it was him! So, I now had all the information I needed to set this guy up for a big shock!
Or at least, I thought I did.... You see, it was then that I realised that his girlfriend's account was listed on his myspace friends list, and on inspection of her account, it became clear that just as the car he posted was his own, so was the girl in the porn shots!
On his myspace it said that he worked in phones4u, it even said which branch!

So, I messaged his girlfriend saying that I used to work with him in phones for you. I said that he was my floor manager and that I needed his mobile phone number to contact him about a job reference. She messaged me back ten minutes later with his mobile phone number.
I looked up the branch of phones4u on the internet, and the next day (monday) I used two of my friends' mobile phones to execute my plan!

I got one phone ready with his mobile number and one phone ready with his work number, I phoned his work number and asked the manager to speak to him (I didnt know his surname yet, but he had a ukrainian name so I knew there would only be one person by his name working there!
The manager passed me over to him, and I proceeded to politely explain that I wasn't happy with his rude behaviour, and that I would like him to stop spamming our boards and also to post a public apology. He hung up on me.
The second he hung up I hit the call button on the other phone, so as soon as he hung up on me his mobile began to ring, he was so shocked that I had his mobile number that he became angry and shouted something about harrasment, so I asked him what his girlfriend would think about him posting photos of her naked on a forum with members as young as 8 years old.
Naturaly he agreed to apologise and to stop. That night he posted an apology on our forums!
Meanwhile, I had my friend who is a policeman run a registration check on his car (the license plate was visible on the photo he posted) and so I now had his home address and phone number. I phoned him at his house the next day from a payphone to thank him for being cooperative!
Poor guy was so shocked and scared but he will not spam another forum any time soon!

Nice:
I found an old video of me throwing an egg at my friend from 30 meters away and it hitting him straight between the eyes and exploding all over him, I posted it on break.com and the next day discovered that I had won 200 bucks because it had reached the front page! I tracked my friend down (I had lost contact with him as he had gone to another school and gave him the money, but he gave me half back and now we're good friends again :)

naughtiest: well this is a most embarassing thing cuz i made a major Fo0L outa ma self but here it goes... lolz i got into a huge fight with my mother on the weekend which with out too much detail ended up in a simple "u r neva welcome in my home again and i neva wanna see u" (from my mother) and a leavin her house via a nice and comfy cop car...... i later then proceeded into havin a fight with my g/f cuz i was an idiot and decided not to talk out how i feel, and cheatin on her with my bestfriends "prospect" for a g/f....2 days later it all crashed horribly and now im am workin on picking up all the peices and stickin em back together....... im back with my g/f now and we have talked quite a bit......things r lookin up

nice: well ever since ive been bout 6 ish ive been volunteering at local food banks, shelters and soup kitchens ( my mom got me into doing so) and i still continue to do so (a lil less often now cuz i got alot to deal with lolz 18yrs old with school work and rent/bills to pay :P) i would rly suggest ppl look into doin such things to help round the community cuz even tho i dont know others situations i do know this..... when i was 16 i was homeless and i rly relied on these such places just to make it day by day......
well this is my bit for this thread
once again i say ppl should look into helpin these such places out in their local communities, ya dont gotta throw cash at them or anything rly
just be there to server their food to them with a warm smile
or help em wrap up in a blanket to get rid of that mid december chill
or what ive seen to be the best assistance ever, give them somebody to talk to or perhaps a shoulder to cry on
but now i shall say g'night lolz cuz im tired
and i give HUGE props to anybody who helps out in these such places

best christmas wishes from CHiMaERA

Personally I think Minty should do what he wants with it. If that's going towards the community pc or another user or keep it. Whatever. It's yours to do with what you want man.

Heh.. Thanks guys, but it's really no thing.. I guess.. I know a lot about construction now, and I feel like through all the trials and tribulations I went through in NOLA, it made me stronger than even my TOD in the Corps... Honestly, My wife and I curse new orleans everytime we hear about it. The people there hated us, we were treated with racial disrespect (we're white by the way..), and the atmosphere was staunchy at best. We lived paycheck to paycheck, and scraped and saved for even the smallest amenity (sp?). But in the end, I wouldn't trade the experiences for anything in the world. Very nice to know that I was supported through all of that by others, when at the time it felt like no one cared.. I'm not in it for the computer case, I just saw this thread as an opportunity to share something. I still miss my cat. She was my life up until we moved. Now I am having a daughter, and my focus has completely shifted.. Still miss that cat though.... I promise that IF I win the case, I will do a mod with it. The mod will *HAVE* to come from this community, and we will call it the TBCS mod. It will be a representation of the forums. It will embody the idea and spirit of everyone who is involved with its conception. I will even get the acrylic etched with "In memory of all who served, are still serving, and who were lost to Hurricane Katrina." or something to that effect.

I'm not sure what Semper Fidelis means, however, I would imagine he was more referring to being "always faithful" in the US Marines.

Yep, it means always faithful and the marines use it too.

It is Always Faithful....

As opposed to Semper Gumby which you'll hear a lot in the Marines referring to our ever changing schedules, meaning "Always Flexible"

Very interesting stuff, I had heard that semper fidelis was an expression that had some Irish roots but I just looked it up in wikipedia and it's from the Lynch family. I'd heard of them before, they were basically the Medici equivelant of 14th century Galway Ireland. Great history there.

From 1995 to 2000. The biggest mistake of my life thus far was getting out.

Semper Fi bro! I knew there was another reason why I liked you. I agree, getting out sucked. I was in from Sept 94 to March 2000. I extended 18 months to go on I&I duty at E Co. 2/25. Where were you stationed?

Like I said, maybe Thursday because I wanted to take my kids to West county anyway so I'll be in the area.
