well ive got nothing to do right now, so i thought id talk about snow.
its finally snowing here. in the past 6 hours, over 4 inches have come down, and they're forecasting that it wont stop until tomorrow afternoon (at least 14 hours from now).
my brother went out to a movie across town, and my parents went out to a rolling stones concert. no one's home yet. at least my parents took the excursion, so they can 4x4 it back if they need to. i dont know what my brother's going to do because he was planning on bussing it back, and i havent seen a bus since it started snowing.
so... anyone else got snow yet?

We in michigan have just gotten some snowfall but nothing thats sticking... Gladly though, cause I don't like snow that much.

haha, lucky you. its still snowing here, and theres probably another inch down now.
my brother just got in. he walked about 2 kilometers from the nearest bus station. took him about an hour and he could barely get up a hill by our house. needless to say... everything's shutting down right now.
in fact its getting so cold that snow is even sticking to the manhole covers. they usually stay warm from the heat in the sewers.. but they're freezing over now.

We had some, but it melted. It's cold enough for snow, but we're just not getting any. Our ski hill is making it though, so I'll be up there for the rest of the winter when they open (it's been delayed 2 times because of the lack of snow).

well im not surprised. the ski hills just arent getting the amount they used to.
heres a fun update. still snowing here. its up to about 6 inches, and its fine wet snow now. horrible to drive in. the forecast says its supposed to keep snowing... and then its supposed to get cold, by tuesday its something like -13 degrees celsius. so i would expect that im going to have a hell of a time getting to my chem midterm on tuesday. the busses still arent running, and its not like im going to be able to get a ride from anyone. cant even walk... its about 10km at least, and it takes me 30 minutes to bike in good weather. i might be screwed.

Well, no snow here. But then again I moved out of colorado because I didn't "want" to live in the snow anymore. In Boulder Creek, we get snow once or twice every 5 years. Melts real quick, but because people around here can barely _spell_ snow, and certainly can not drive in it, it usually shuts things down for a while, while they clear the road of all the accidents.
I anticipate the snow in Tahoe every year and more so now that I have my season pass...

Ha, I went swiming and sailing on Sunday 8) . I hate the snow
I'm in St. Louis Missouri (USA) and it's like 65 right now.. I dunno when "snow" is supposed to start, but this is my first year living here, and I am from Houston Texas.. We had like a 1/2 inch of snow on christmas eve a couple years ago, for the first time in 15 years.. soo... I dunn owhat to expect 8)

Have fun with it then! We had some snow here in Ohio a few weeks ago. Didn't stick. This week it's supposed to be in the 60's. I wish my s10 was running because I love taking it out and doing donuts everywhere.

We got about 4 inches here in maple ridge. Snow ball fights are the best! Im going to hit up the golf course hills on the weekend if the snows still around.

Well I have at least as much as Cana-Balistic if not more! It's still snowing outside too! :D (golf course plus snowmobile equals a heck of alot of fun!)
I busted out my skateboard, disassembled it for the last time, waxed it, and went snowboarding! ...it wasn't as easy as I thought it was, you don't really have any control. But it does work! eh, the poor mans snowboard. I should just invent an entire line of products for the poor man lol
oh and this is fun, my new neighbors shot a deer IN MY FUDGING BACK YARD!!! THEY SHOT IT! ITS DEAD! MY DEER!!! :( ...lol well I am not against hunting or anything, but we do have a small neighbor hood up here with lots of kids and you know what? I LIKE TO SEE DEER EVERY NOW AND THEN!!! Geeze... is that the first thing you think when you see an animal? LETS KILL IT! My god... just enjoy the beauty of nature for once!
Well I feel better lol

EDIT:
WAIT NO I DON'T! I saw it when their truck got stuck (hehe) and it was a tiny thing... seriously! I would of not thought, LETS KILL IT! If I was behind that guns barrel... At least wait a year so it grows a bit more! People with guns who think they are hunters... what a laugh.
OKAY! Now I feel better. lol

I am not against hunting either, but they are shooting too close to your house. Freaking rednecks need to learn about NOT endangering their neighbors.
Anyone remember the story several years ago about the lady shot and killed in her own back yard by a hunter who thought she was a deer because of the white gloves she was wearing? He got off scott free! And we are not talking the middle of nowhere here either.
Moral of the story? He needed a new brain, new glasses and the crazy lady should have known it was hunting season and should have been wearing "orange" gloves!

well, here in vancouver we've got almot a foot of snow, and we're expecting another half a foot over night. (Vancouver's in BC, Canada, a couple miles North of Seattle washington)
Looking forward to hitting grouse which apparently got 2 feet of snow over the last couple days.
It's funny though, If I go about 5 miles east to downtown, no snow, where I work, there's MAYBE 2 inches of snow...
it's rather beautiful outside though, I live near a park, and all the trees are white, I'll be taking my camera out tomorrow :D

I board. Quite the shredder too. I used to be a 2 planker, but got bored. Stopped with the snow sports for a while and when I moved up to norcal, I tagged along with a couple of buds who had been boarding for years. Took the lesson package (do NEVER learn from a friend or loved one), and the next trip set off on my own. By the next season I was setting the pace for my group of friends. Now if they want to keep up, they either have to strap on skis of make me go through the terrain features or trees (yes I wear a helmet).
Heavenly is a MUST see in Tahoe if you ever go.
http://www.skiheavenly.com/audio_visual/webcams/tram/
you can stand at the top of the mountain with one foot in nevada and one foot in california. To the california side is lake tahoe, to the nevada side is the desert. Great view, but too many tourists (moving slalom poles) for me. I got my season pass this year here:
http://www.kirkwood.com/winter0607/
My ride:
Marrow eScape 164 (long and wide for my gargantuan feet)
Switch bindings and boots (was going to upgrade this year, but spent the money on my lift pass instead. Maybe the loved ones will be good to me for x-mas.
That is all, hope to see some of you on the mountains... OR NOT!

Tahoe is nice but nothing holds a candle in the wind to Whistler & BlackComb

Whistler/Blackcomb is nice too. Nothing like riding on a glacier! I was there a couple of years ago for the boardercross competition and had lots of fun. Didn't place though. Got took out in the second corner of my first race. Found out how much of a contact sport boardercross is! I was surprised at how close to the ocean Whistler is but that explains the wet snow.
The best thing about Lake Tahoe is the amount of ski resorts within a 45 minute drive from anywhere on the lake. You could spend 2 weeks there and never board at the same resort twice.
Was that 13' in one day?!?!

Not been to BB yet. A little south for me... We were thinking of doing a southern sweep, but may not have a chance this year.
Sierra at Tahoe is pretty much all boarders. Well 80% anyway, mom and dad have to keep up with the kids somehow. Last year they even had a superpipe (~20' rim). I was able to pull a couple of tricks off of it by the end of the day. On one particular run, after barely making it to the lip, I built up my speed and flew at least 10 feet out of the pipe. Scared the droppings out of me because I was not expecting it, but was able to land a fakie. I am more into the back country jumps and drops from cornices than I am the terrain park, but I have been known to pull a few choice grabs right in front of the crowd. One of my boarder partners is also a pretty awesome skateboarder and he is going to show me how to take some of the rails and boxes this year.
FWIW: A couple of years ago my wife and I got her dad out on a board and he loved it. He wants to go again this year, but is worried about the bumps and bruises. He is 65. I told him they sell butt pads and he thought we were joking. We picked one up for him for a joke christmas present.
Now you guys got me in the mood for some snow sports! The resort is open, I just need to get my butt up there.

Oh ok, I was going to call the avalanche warning people! 10' in one month (so far) is good. Plus it's wet and heavy.
Kirkwood got 804" (67') (1270cm), last season. One area was so deep you could dive off one of the cornices into light fluffy powder. The only problem was getting out. I jumped off things last year that normally would make me sick to look at.
Thinking of doing another Whistler/BlackCombe trip in January...

No snow where I am in NorCal, but it has been below freezing for the past few days (and ****ing cold at night regardless) and we have a storm moving in soon, so I'm hopeful.
were supposed to get snow here tonight...dunno yet....well see..

My entire drive way is completely iced over. Given the curves, length and steepness of it, it makes for a great ride! :p
We are supposed to have a major snow storm up here sooner than later. But so far no sign of it happening.
I was also looking at snowboards today...
THOSE THINGS ARE PRICEY! :dead:
I was hoping they were in the $150 dollar range for a complete set. lol Damn I feel foolish now. They range anywhere from $80 (on major sale) to a grand. Those grand ones look friggen sweet and the specs on them sound even sweeter!
I guess I'll just have to stick with my disassembled skateboard. I might go pick up a snow skate as they are around $40 dollars and have much much more control than my skateboard lol.

Oh man, Dismantled skateboards are the best. If we get snow here, I'm gonna find some board wax and cover the rough parts of my deck then go ride the snow down some hills near me =D

lol that so called storm coming towards New York might bring us snow depending on the temps but most likely it will just be lots of rain :(
My winter activity is chopping firewood and taking hikes.
I like clean cold personally, but at this point I will settle for the small amount of white on the ground.
We had sleet all night that's turned into snow. I haven't been outside today and I'm going to assume that the sleet is frozen. Huzzah.
It's cold and I like it that way. Finally time to pull the blankets out of storage. I'm going to freeze all the insects out of my house.
we're supposed to be getting our first storm here in a few hours. Its supposed to last untill noon tomorrow. They say anywhere between 6 to 12 inches. So I'm hopin. Ice football is always fun. My friends and I grap a foot ball and play it on the local ice rink in tennis shoes.. or theres ice smear the queer, thats always fun..and painful. But the best is when you make a line of 15 people and take out all the little kids on the sled hill by going do horizontally:twisted:

The only bad thing about it is that you have pretty much no control like you do with snow skates. Thanks to the inverted groove things on the bottom of the board.
on a side note...
Snow + Grape Juice and Soda = YUM lol
sweet. School was just cancled for me due to snow. First time this has happened in about 6 years. SO I'm happy :D!
It happens. Frozen trees and power lines don't mix well.
Springfield had the same thing a couple of days ago. I was without power for almost 9 hours. No biggie. It will be fixed. Beautiful and cold outside. Hooray for killing bugs.
Yea, I know this is posting after I posted, but about 4 pm I got hit by someone who spun out. My car is not functioning. The entire front end is bent inward, although it doesn't look like it did much to the actual engine. No fault of my own, accidents happen.
As for me, I'm fine. I'm a bit sore, but nothing serious. I still have use of all my body parts. I'll be bruised pretty bad tomorrow though. I also get to really survey the damage.
The guy doesn't have insurance, so I get to fight a legal battle. Damn, downsized and my first accident ever within the same year. 2006 isn't shaping up so well for me.
Well, off to catch a cab to get groceries. Everyone take care, be careful, and wear your ****ing seatbelts.

The guy doesn't have insurance, so I get to fight a legal battle.
Man, I don't want to screw anyone, but dude, go all-out with the law.
One of my best friends got hit my a drunk-driver.
Not overly drunk, but definitely intoxicated.
My friend's car: 1996 Camaro Z28. No mods or anything, but he had it very clean.
This guy in a Merc, just didn't stop.
BAM from behind.
Anyways, when the cops arrived, the guy's wife was already there.
She, and the guy, were pleading with my friend to *not* have the police take him away DUI.
Now, (INAL) ((I'm Not A Lawyer)), but I have no idea how this crap flew with the officers. Goes to show you...
Anyways, after a gazillion promises that they would take care of my friend's car personally... yadda yadda yadda...
Looong story short::: My friend got bent over, lubed up, and screeewed.
No money. No car. No pay. No dice. No DUI.
Again, I hope for the best... but dude, in this day and age, you have to be on the offensive with things like this (IMHO).
Damn, downsized and my first accident ever within the same year. 2006 isn't shaping up so well for me.
Positive side of the coin:::: There's less than 31 days to go of 2006. w00t
and wear your ****ing seatbelts.
YES! Everyone, please do!

Man that sucks. I hope 2007 will be alot better for you!
Our power went out about 2 weeks ago... when we didn't even have snow. Luckily we have a Honda uber quiet generator, a gigantic monstrous ?propane? generator and a emergency battery for our entire house that will last around 8 hours. I can't imagine a scenario where I don't have power lol. Oh no! The batteries are dead! Well thats okay, lets start up the honda. OH NO! We have no gas! Well thats okay, lets start up "the beast". OH NO! Both of our massive propane tanks that were just refilled 2 weeks ago are empty!
lol not very likely...
Btw we have two propane tanks because we live on a mountain and thats what pretty much runs our entire house. Well one does, the other is solely for the generator.
War anyone? :devious: <-that guy needs an army cap!
