Hey all, this would be my first mod, i was toying around with the idea of making a Sci-fi console type PC from something like Fallout 3. Like, a case all "shot-up" and rusted. Here are a few scetches i made using scetch-up:

(Just pretend all the holes on the side of the case are bullet holes, and the mesh are all fans)

I know, i know, i suck with scetch-up, but it gets my point across. You see the little overhand overtop the drive bays? Well, i was thinking about putting in 4 white LED's to light up that area. I was also wondering what kind of color scheme to go for... i have a blue modular Hiper power supply (Very nice) with LEDs, so i was thinking just to make the inside of the case blue, and the outside white/and or red. (Keep in mind this is the color of the lights) Im working with Xoxides Statix-X case. I would need new panel where the bullet holes will go, but i think i can manage that. http://www.xoxide.com/x-static-2-black.html For those 2 blue pillars in the front, i was wondering if i could replace them with 2 red cold cathodes set to react to sound, so i get the effect that its "broken". I was also thinking about getting a wire or 2 to hang out of the smaller bullet holes, put some sleeving on it, and make it look frayed. Well, thats about all i have come up with. Tell me what you think.

*Edit* I cant decide where to put the reset/power switch... as well as the HDD LED (it's red), so if i can get a few suggestions, that would help me out. thanks.

One more thing, im nto sure when i can do this project, because of school and money reasons.

Maybe wire your white LED's in the top overhang to the HDD activity?

Ooo, i like that idea. Then i could leave those 2 red cathodes on instead of sound-activated.

You should look up the half life 2 PC for inspiration.

Welcome to the boards, fallout fan :)

New suggestion on the same idea.. Does anyone know if it would be possible to put a cap in that circuit? I'm guessing it would go before the resistor, if it's at all possible. That way, even when there's no HDD activity, there would still be a little juice going to the LED's.. maybe they would just be a little dim... think of a "brown-out" where there's just barely enough juice to power your light bulb, it's really dim, and a little brown looking.

Hmm.... im not sure what you mean with "cap". I know some about electronics, but i dont know a whole lot. Maybe someone good with electronics could respond to this.

cap = capacitor. basically a battery. not sure if the idea's feasible tho

nice, i saw an occilloscope/pc that looked kind of like that
keep up the nice work. the front fin/sticky up thingy is kind of sketchy though
and i must say, Fallout 3 is a superb game

Ah, ok. it might work, but im not sure if enough juice would get to it.

(sorry for the double post, not sure how to quote 2 people) I know, it does seem scetchy. I still cant decide how to mount it. Im thinking about making it out of HDD metal, then bolting it on...

I'm sure someone on this board could figure it out.. Crimson, CBB, TD, TGS? c'mon guys. I'm not an EE so I have no idea how to pull it off.. was just an idea

(sorry for the double post, not sure how to quote 2 people)

click the button to the right of the "quote" button on all the people you want to quote, then click the quote button by one of them. creates multiple quotes. (like i'm using :D)

granted, i haven't played with small components in a while. it very well may be doable. i just can't reason through how it would work in my head.
