Hello guys,

I did a search of the forums, and didn't find a thread like this.
If there actually is one, please let me know, and I'll copy/paste... then this can be deleted. :)

I was wondering, what software do you guys prefer?
This thread can head anywhere... but maybe it can be like,... well, not "in-depth" software (D0odz, just instahl leenux n yr shuttlz (deeban stble rox wif glox!))

I'm going to upload a screen shot of my computer... so you guys can also see what I run @ system tray and QuickLaunch. I ain't going to show you my desktop, because it's super-duper cluttered right now... I feel embarassed by it.

Here's my list so far::::

Opera (BEST browser EVER.... IMO, FireFox is overrated)
WinAmp (WINAMP!!! nothing else to add)
Avast (anti virus)
CCleaner
What's Running
Start-Up Organizer
Trillian (runs various IM clients)
Tor (proxy, when needed)
Open Office
TrueCrypt (I sleep like a baby @ night)

Peace guys!!! Hope you like
AJ

Nope, no Tor here. Tor's speed pretty much sucks. I just use a local proxy that one of my buddies runs, eliminating the Tor Circuit.

Wow!!!!!

Amazing.
This. Thread. Is. Bookmarked.
I've downloaded enough stuff to keep me entertained for a couple of weeks... at the very least!
And now I want to buy a webcam so I can use WebCamXP! lol lol

FireFox (bite me)
HAa!
It's cool man. :)
FireFox is great. I just prefer Opera.
I'll give you something though, FireFox Portable (http://portableapps.com/apps/internet/firefox_portable) is very handy.

Yeah. But Tor is the onion network.
And your bits, as they travel down the internet tubes, do not smell like onion.
So the NSA is attracted to your bits and bytes.
It's all about the onion man.

But, for real... the other day I was downloading some stuff with Tor (wha'?! who? me?!) and it was running 'bout 90% of my typical speeds. And my outgoing IP was over in Germany... I believe.

Neways...
Thanks for the replies guys!!!

Firefox portable is the ****. Combine with google browser sync and you're in business at every computer with port 80 open.

That's almost everything I use. Thus, my favorites.

Just what I've wanted to say. :)

I sure do. I have my reasons.

PowerISO - Mounts .mdf files better than dt, cd drive emulation
Daemon Tools - dvd drive emulation, can deal with .vob files better
WinISO makes ISO files and is very easy to use and setup.

4 media programs?
Winamp and MPC are the only 2 I see.

Chat programs
I've used IRC for years. I still do for a couple of groups I talk to.
Trillian I use because I like flexibility among the 4 chat clients and I don't like the internal IRC client. That's why I use mIRC.
Googletalk I also use. I like to stay well connected.
Really, 99% of the time my chat programs are more of an answering machine. Leave a message and I will get back to you eventually.

6 network programs? Uh, no.
NMap, VTrace, Ethereal and ping are only 4.

HMenu is a way to hide shortcuts on your desktop. Rather handy little program.
And a firewall is just mandatory. The nice thing about sygate is the fact that it gives you direct control over every aspect of your firewall. Once you learn the ins and outs it becomes just as powerful as shorewall in linux.

I don't use all this software all the time. When I'm gaming I rarely have my chat clients or mounting programs open. It's just this is the list of software that I use. I demand a lot of performance out of my computer and the software it uses and I get it. I spend far too much time achieving it, but I still get it.

And yes, I really use them.

arent these media players?

Real Alternative
Quicktime Alternative

I'v used sygate pro for years now. Symantec bought them out a while ago, what a shame.

Real Alt and Quick Alt aren't media players. They integrate into MPC to allow you to play realmedia and quicktime files without their proprietary players installed on your box. Think codec.

Yea, big companies often swallow better software to stifle the competition. It's a good firewall.
