My latest project...
-Mini-itx mobo
-2 2.5" laptop Harddrives
-M2 atx power supply that runs off 12v
-30mm cooling fan

I made the case out of Stainless Steel and polished it to a #4 finish... all hardware and brackets on the inside are also stainless steel.

It shows in the quality of the case. Do you do the SS cutting or have it done somewhere else? I ask because I know what a pain it is cutting SS. I finally gave up and took my project to a place that specializes in SS work. Took me many hours of filing and grinding to get a decent edge after they were done cutting.

I do all of the work in house including the cutting. The designs were cut with a waterjet.
I plan to install the case somewhere visible in the car...not shure where yet. Ideas??
As for the screen it will be set into a stainless steel bezel
and placed into a receses in my dash left by the climate controls (since moved).
I drew the case in CAD as a 3D model and then cut the parts, welded and polished them out to form the case.
There are about 10 standoffs on the inside all welded to the bottom for mounting the mobo and PSU.
There is a 2 space stainless Hard Drive rack inside as well that is welded to the side of the case and cooled by the fan.

what kind of car do you have? Maybe you can make a plexiglass window on the dash or something.

mount the computer on top like a dvd player...get a 5400 or tops 7200 rpm hd for durability, screen could be flip down.

Ha! I knew it! The first thing I thought was "water jet". ^^

Water jets are amazing tools. You can usually tell where they were used bescause all the smallest corners will be the same radius because the jet is actually a circle of water (obviously). Just alittle somehting I noticed.
