View Full Version : Other forms of art?

Anyone use their artistic skills in areas other than modding or computers?

I personally am trying to get involved with theater work again, i did some lighting/tech work for several performances, its a very satisfying thing to see your hard work come together for something like that.

I would also consider myself an amateur photographer.

Wow... thinking about it... I'm... art-less.

I'm a natural with pottery. I'm better with the wheel more than anything else though. I've never had one piece turn out "bad" or explode in the Kiln on me. My first wheel piece was also my first glazed piece and was enough to impress my teacher to actually ask me to come back next year as well as often as I could during my current year. Unfortunately, my credits wouldn't allow a second go and my time schedule through out the day was tight enough so I didn't learn as much as I wanted to. But I still have that piece and I love showing it off to my friends and family! ^^

I am also thinking about getting into airbrushing.

ive done pottery, many forms of painting, piano, creative wood and metal work, and jewelry as far as hands on arts go. if you consider demolition an art form, ive done that too.

i tried my hand at writing music for my friend who plays the saxophone. that didnt work very well. i ended up writing piano music. i was trying to tell him to play multiple notes at once which isnt possible to do on a single saxophone, so basically i was telling him to play three saxophones at once in 17/3 timing. add on top of that the fact that i dont follow any musical conventions... it was a disaster. i was promptly banned from writing music ever again.

right now i dont really have time to take on any huge projects, so i just write stories and draw pictures when im bored.

eventually im going to completely redo my room with an airbrush. im not sure what im going to do quite yet, but i DO know that it will be a tropical landscape of some sort. maybe an african savanna type thing, or borneo rainforest. i want to stay with something that reminds me of summer, but theres the possibility of an arctic ocean setting with icebergs or something. actually you know what? i REALLY dont know where im going with it now that i think about it. the field is wide open so to speak.

You know I'd love to have a job were I could work with wood. I'd love a job with a loudspeaker/Sub manufacturer like Mission/REL or the like.
See the thing is it was never an option when I was at school. It was always "All you are capable of is Empty bins, Filling bins, Take bins to be emptied." Not once when I was at school did I ever hear an adult say "What do you really want to do?"

Slug Toy

and thats the exact reason that, for the most part, i do whatever i want. sure, i follow a few rules when im at school... but beyond that i run my life how i want and make the world conform. i dont mold my life to accommodate the world.

the way ive always looked at this situation is "do it, and if they tell you that you cant then you do it even faster and dont tell them until you're done".

I do some soldering for my friends when needed. Some photography, usually to get ideas for mods.

Also I'm trying to use my knowledge of modding tools and materials to find a better way to build model's for car/airplane designs. I also like to design anything and everything, from bobble heads to pocket knives. Unfortunately my deigns are stuck to the pages of books because I never have the initiative to build them.

I like to customize games like changing the weapon skins desgin my own. Like in halo on the PC I gave the warhog crome rims and and paintjob. :devious: Thats the only sought of art I do really. I am hopeless with music. Sometimes I will write if I feel inspired but it normally fizzels out after 20 pages so never enough for a book I can sell the move rites to and retire on.

I have been singing and acting for a bit now. I always have the lead roles in my school's musicals and dramas. This year I am Horton in Suessical (unfortunately, lousy Suessical). I am a member of my grade choir, our robe choir, our chamber choir, county choir, and I was a member of the state boy's choir, but I dropped out.

I like to airbrush, but in terms of painting realistic flames on cars and stuff, I'm no where near good.

I sing in a local ska band as lead vocals. I also play drums.

I dabble in photography as well.

This'll sound wierd as hell, but I am also a beast at duct tape art. I sell it locally to my friends and in a few stores, even. I make tons of custom wallets, backpacks, vests, flowers, purses, hats, pants, even shoes.

Dude, I didn't know that. I'm in the area so let me know when you got a gig coming up, I'd love to hear you guys.

I used to dabble in charcoal and India ink, I really loved to do crosshatching works. Sadly, I never photographed some of my best stuff and always gave it away before thinking about keeping any record. The best piece I ever did was a portrait with conte crayon in a red-mud color of one of my professors years ago (he studied art in Florance Italy with the masters and was the best sketch artist I have ever seen). That piece is hanging in my folks house but alas I have no picture of it. Here are a couple of pieces I did that were hanging in one of my ex-girlfriends house (likely ashes at this time though...)

I did some work on the Pelican but it was a bitch to work with. Also I messed with the weapons so in Lan games the assult rifle instead of shooting assult rifle bullets shot tank shells. As there was simple value in a dll file that could be changed using a hex editor to choose what guns shot what bullets. I dont have any of the files though :( as this was quite a while ago and I got out of it. I might be able to find a few of them online if they still exist.

Good to see there were some other people who where into it. This game was one of those where more people were modding it rather then playing it and trying out mods.

Did you ever try uploading modifications of the xbox version of halo on the xbox? It could be done but I never did it myself.

AERO!? You didn't mention my favorite piece of art from you! Let me give you a hint, PUMPKINS.

Pumpkins going splat after flying 800+ feet through the air, Now thats art!

Hmmm, art huh? Lets see... well I made a snow angel yesterday and I gave it horns and starting dancing around it yelling "Lucifer commands you! Lucifer commands you! NOW RISE AND DESTROY MY LITTLE BROTHER FOR EATING THE LAST PIECE OF CAKE!" ...needless to say it didn't work. But I have often heard that being clinically insane is an art form of sorts.

I've just managed to get myself a position on the Northern Conflicts battlefield2 mod team - I am a texture artist (skinner) for weapons!
Currently working on a Diemaco C8 Assault rifle but I can't show any renders of it yet because it isn't finished and we only unveil stuff when it's 100% finished.
check http://film.spillutvikling.net/Filer/planes.wmv for a video of the three scandanavian fighter jets that we just unveiled!

you know what sounds like a good idea for a case mod that would be unique for every person. design a mod based on what your already good at. it should save you the time of learning to airbrush, solder, arc weld, you know, that complicated stuff. :D

i was down at the art store yesterday, just browsing as always, and i turned the corner and i found myself staring directly at beautiful looking airbrush set, and for a reasonable price. so i might be adding airbrushing to the list after the new year. if anyone feels the urge to PM me a link to a good beginners guide, that would be fantastic. ;)

I consider many things to be "art".

To watch my mechanic tear down the transfer case on my landcruiser and put it back together again brings tears to my eyes and is a great work of art. I mean I can work on my truck and I'm sure that if I tried, I could rebuild it myself. It just would not give me the same warm fuzzy while I was crawling through Rubicon. The process to me is just as much art as the finished product.

This is my art; I am a drummer or rather I prefer "percussionist" because my music comes from many different objects not just drums. I also play just about any wind instrument, a knack I found I had in the 2nd grade. I custom build equipment racks and when I am done it is art. I am a simple cabinet maker trying to learn more. I can doodle, but not draw very well.

Airbozo,
What year cruiser do you drive? I used to have a 78' and loved that tank!

'75 1/2 FJ40, '77 engine (run in with a drug dealer), '78 top (for the side wing windows), '78 front and rear axle's (for the disc brakes). Working on a frame off partial restoration. Nothing really wrong, just wanted to paint it since it is 5 different colors because of all the mismatching. I figured it was time to replace all the bushings and then it was just one step to a frame off. We are planning on cleaning and painting everything visible with original colors. I am amazed at how easy it is to take this thing apart. They must have designed it to be torn down in the field... I just hope things go back together so easy. I am hoping to afford a new 350 for it when I am ready to reassemble. I can get a complete crate engine direct from the factory for less than $4k, then $3k for paint and rhino lining the tub.

Speaking of art, this is art;

No I never messed with my Xbox version, I wanted to sometime, but I felt it was best to leave it unmodded (good thing, it ended up break ing and my warrenty got me a new one :lick: ). But yeah, that game was over looked by alot of people. It was a blast to mess around with, my favortie mods were the simple hex ones like you said, I think the was a way to make the shotgun shoot plasma granades, that was my favorite, get all those on a warthog and watch it go.

But your right talk about a modding community. I was disappointed when H:CE died, so much potential. But it was kinda funny when the modders out number the hardcore players, I think I was both :p. It just got hard to find other clans to play with after awhile, kinda funny really. Actually, I think my friend was the one who killed it for alot of leagues, he released the AIMbot that worked around all the "cheat detection" programs (he never used it, but laughed when others got caught with it). And we almost killed him for it too.

Lol, yeah SnowFire, my bad, smashing pumpkins can be an art form right? What about lighting them on fire with gasoli..I mean I never did that.

I guess that would work changing the value from shotgun pellet to plasma grenade. Pretty cool. Good times then.

I also did some work on the orignal Starseige Tribes which I still play since it release 8 years ago. It is now freeware and I payed full retial price at the time. I also just dabled a tiny bit with Jedi Knight II Jedi Oucast. My last modding was with Halo.

I play the piano, and the guitar.
