what is a good gaming case that will accomadate 2 dx10 cards and 1000w PSU.

Main things I am look for in a case for my 1st build is ...

1.) good instructions
2.) room to work
3.) solid case that will last me a long while maybe aluminum?

thats all i really know to ask for at this point...

I just want my first build to go smooth and reading a lot of reviews on newegg leads me to believe some cases can cuase major frustration to 1st timers ... then the sheeer volume of cases to choose from is overwhelming

First off.... why do you need a 1000 watt PSU?

What kind of system will you be running? Will you want to mod it later? What is your budget?

Also, what do you mean instructions? Cases are pretty straight forward... you put stuff in them.

Reasons / answers to yor questions in red

First off.... why do you need a 1000 watt PSU?

well i assumed to run 2 dx 10 graphic cards later i would need a minimum of 850 .. maybe not /shrug

What kind of system will you be running?

a top notch gaming rig is what i want to build

Will you want to mod it later? doubtful i will do more than put the componets in the case

What is your budget? i dont really have one in mind for just a case but want to stay between 3-5k on the computer i build

Also, what do you mean instructions? Cases are pretty straight forward... you put stuff in them.

reading some reviews on new egg abot various cases i would notice people say things like this case would not be a good case for a newb , or not a lot of instructions for new builders .. etc or the opposite of that saying this was decent for a begining 1st time build lots of good directions etc.. or even how some cases need to be dremmeled to fit componets or hard to work in from lack of room ... thats what i was referring to

The Nvidia 8 series cards use two pci-e power inputs; I expect that it would take a ridiculous amount of power to run both of them safely and efficiently!

As for a case, it depends what style you're looking for. I personaly would go for either the lian li v1000+ or my current case, the NZXT Lexa which is very spacy , comes with some nice added extras like a carrying harness, has an awesome brushed aluminium front bezel, LCD temp. display, and most importantly, a 120mm fan in the window, over the graphics card slots instead of the cpu, so it blasts cold air onto your graphics cards!

You can't go wrong with a Lian-Li, they make great cases. Have you looked into any of them? They have some sleek designs with tons of great features etc. Also, for ease of install and whatnot, I wouldn't worry about it too much - it's all pretty straight forward and if you have any trouble that what these forums are for! :)

You can also look for
TT Armor
CM Staker
Silverstone

All of them are good and big cases

I think the 8800GTX has 2 PCI power connectors is to insure stability. So lets say... instead of sending 40A through one power connector, they send 20A on two. They are the most power hungry cards, but it isn't ridiculous.

I personally like Silverstone caes. They just came out with the TJ09 (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16811163073), which has a 120 mm fan to cool your video cards.

Lian-Li's are pretty great cases.

Are you going to go watercooling?

Id love to go water cooling and over clock but heh ive never built me 1st comp yet and scared of water cooling -- how hard is it?

Watercooling can be a major hassle the first couple of times you use it or troubleshoot it. Broken seals, leaks, There is not only increased costs, but maintenance and monitoring.
I'm not trying to dissuade you, just giving you the info I was never told.

If this is your first build ever, avoid watercooling. Get the basics down a few (dozen) times, then go for a more advanced setup.

BTW, the computer I'm posting this on is a watercooled rig. I feel some pride in saying that. It took lots of work I wouldn't have had to do otherwise, but you can't argue with a 78F processor.

okay skip water cooling but here is what im buying ...

I need suggestion on a case big enough to fit it all, easy on a beginer, I also need to make sure everything is cooled well, have not got a cpu fan or heat sink yet - not sure on best

If I am gonna air cool I need yalls suggestion to keep this things temp down
seems its gonna get hot

Some good brands of cases are Cooler master, NZXT, and Thermaltake. If you're thinking of a side window on your case, go with either NZXT or Thermaltake. If you're looking for good cooling, go with Cooler Master. You have some great hardware, and I expect to see a PC come out of it all :p.

For air cooling, I stick with ZALMAN, perfect cooling, nice looking...

For your HDD, Maybe you can consider 2* 320GB and forget about the RAPTOR: if you put them in raid you will have almost the same result as a raptor alone, but with extra space. The Raptor is loud and cost 200$ more then the Caviar

And you can put that extra 200$ on a decent mobo (sorry I've always hated Intel boards...) like the ASUS (http://usa.asus.com/products4.aspx?l1=3&l2=11&l3=397&model=1439&modelmenu=1)

Just my 2 cents

Nice build BTW Wish I have this kind of money

Edit: Why get a SATA DVD burner, when you can have the same results with an ATA Drive and 70$ in your pockets ;)

The Asus Striker Extreme is really nice, but also expensive... Not to mention that it seems to be out of stock everywhere.

Another option would be the EVGA nForce 680i (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16813188009).

The Zalman 9700 (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16835118019) is a good heatsink/fan.

EDIT:
I just realized that your power supply won't work with your build. It only has 2 PCI-e power connectors and your 2 8800GTX's will need a total of 4. Here is a list that nVidia certifies (http://www.slizone.com/object/slizone_build_psu.html#certified_powersupplies).

the one raptor is for playing games with faster access times
bad decision ?

1- reading TH (http://www.tomshardware.com/2006/02/06/wd1500ad_raptor_xtends_performance_lead/page9.html) review (I hate naming them...)

f data transfer performance is all you are looking for - video and audio editing in high quality would require high throughput - the RAID 0 array definitely beats the WD1500 Raptor. However, the amazing transfer performance is not enough to dominate in the application benchmarks.
Same thing for the temps...
Although the new Raptor spins considerably faster that its competitors, the WD1500 did not really get warmer than the 7,200 RPM drives. This is impressive proof of the advances that have been made in reducing friction and increasing the efficiency of heat dissipation.

2- You can get any 16x DVD burner double side like Liteon, LG, Samsung, sony, asus, finally almost any drive around 30-45$ There's still no point going with SATA optical drive for now. Wait for price drop... (in a year or 2)

For your case, the Silverstone TJ09, which color do you want? I know the pictures on Newegg show it in black, but the name/title says it is in silver. You might want to confirm which color you are ordering with Newegg. Just to be sure.

Did you decide to go with 1 8800GTX? I thought I saw a previous list where you had 2.

I think im gonna paint it anyway

Did you decide to go with 1 8800GTX? I thought I saw a previous list where you had 2.

not sure yet i may start with one and go to SLI if i think it will improve gaming that i can notice with my naked eye... or is it a no brainer to get 2?

or should i wait 12 months or so aand get two new versions in a sli config..
still debating this

Anyone see any conflicts with the above items ... this will be first build ... i think they all go with each other ... is there anything i could do to make it better with current tech ?

Hard drive config advice for screaming gaming ?

Yeah, it is a lot easier making copies directly from the original disc. I think I may get another drive soon just for that reason (and my burner crapped out on me :( )

But damn dude, you are one lucky guy. That is going to be one amazing machine.

Newbster, to make a newegg wishlist public, you have to jsut do this:

Save your desired items, and go to the "My saved wishlists". Select the list you want to share, and press the "share" button.

Then what I did, was I e-mailed myself the link of the wishlist, as if I was e-mailing a friend. I check my e-mail, and voila, I have the URL to the wishlist.

Yes, the 8800 series are DX10.

I thought about it but I see no real gains in performance between the two chips IMHO

Actually, you would see a slight performance decrease (depending on what you are benchmarking with) with the quad core because the clock speed is a bit slower. But, developers like Valve are starting to push towards multi-threaded coding in their games. But you are right, there are no gains for now and probably not that soon either. I just suggested (more like joked about) it because you were going all out already and your "budget" is huge, so it wouldn't cost that much more to get a quad core. You also won't have to worry about upgrading it later. But I would wait until Intel comes out with a "native" quad core. Hopefully, it would be better and eat up less power.

Good luck with your build!
