I have an Alienware Sentia and I am bored of all the hip, sleek, 800 add-on buttons, slots, etc. I want to make a new case that is just plain black and boxy, but as thin and small as it can be.
Anyone know where to start? Would making a fiberglass mold be worth it or because it's a laptop is it not even worth it. I don't have very much money to work with...

Plain, Black and Boxy eh? I actually like that look. Well what you could do is create it out of Plexiglass (http://www.thebestcasescenario.com/forum/www.estreetplastics.com). They have Black, White, and all the colors of the rainbow in either Solid or Transparent colors. You could also try clear, then paint the insides black so it has a shiny glossy glass look to it. Just get some Weld-On to *fuse* the pieces of acrylic together instead of using glue's to... well glue them together.
Thats where I would start. Building materials. I would also draw it up on Google SketchUp or something like that to get a good idea of what you want and where you want to go with it. Plan, Plan, Plan. And when you are done, plan some more. Oh and forget measuring twice, measure three times for good luck. Thats about all the advice I can give you for now. Get some drawings going and show us what you are wanting to do/go for. We can start helping you more with ideas, tips, tricks, etc. once we have been visually informed of your idea's.
Welcome to our forum. Enjoy your stay! Also, not that you have done or said anything wrong, but just for knowledge sake. Take a minute or two and read through "The Rules of the Road (http://www.thebestcasescenario.com/forum/showthread.php?p=54#post54)", as most people do not and end up doing or saying something troublesome.

Hmm I like the sound of the plexiglass... it sounds simple enough that I could do it. I also think that the painting the inside black sounds like a really good idea to get that glass layer thing going.
Unfortunately I'm at work and have exams this week at school so I may not have much time to do the sketch up for a week.
Thanks for the info and I'll post some more when I get a chance!
