...really annoying? or at least that seems the best you could do with this (http://cgi.ebay.com/MOUSE-LASER-POINTER-FOR-COMPUTER-PRESENTATION-PROJECTOR_W0QQitemZ200053855486QQihZ010QQcategoryZ 48653QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem#ebaypho tohosting) to simulate star trek any further than the design. :D pretty nifty regardless. next time i have an extra 50 bucks i might consider getting me one of these. i just wouldn't wanna carry it with my laptop onto a plane. i can almost hear the security guards now...
"OMG...hes got a...um...on of those things from star trek...GET HIM!"
Looks pretty cool.
BTW Have you ever seen SOAP (not as in soap as we know it, but the project called SOAP)?

For the life of me... I just can't imagine using that thing. Might be kind of fun to go to a lan party and... throw it at people or something.

thats a lot of hand work (the SOAP) to manipulate stuff on a screen. A step sideways, if not backwards for the technology.

its got its uses, like office scenarios, powerpoint, the kinda stuff i never do.
^_^
Honestly, I think it's aesthetic value is almost enough, might look good with a mod. besides, if it's a trackball, it shouldn't being overly complicated to use. Although I foresee a steep learning curve. lol

The only purpose I could see for one of those would be to throw it and it would come back. LOL.

originally i found this looking for projectors on ebay, and then i started thinking about actually making my HTPC. i have a wireless mouse, wireless keyboard, and, go figure, a remote control for my pc. the mouse is a pain to use while kickin' back, and the remotes mouse function is worse than using arrows keys for mouse movement -_- thats why im attempting to build a soap mouse. i thought this might be an interesting idea. anyone seen any other handheld wireless trackballs. what do you guys/gals use for your HTPCs, if you have one.
For the star trek geeks who host presentations...lord....
