Does anyone know of a PRECOMPILED linux mp3 player? I've seen many of them, but they want you to make the install file, compile it, etc. I just want something that installs and that's it.
How about XMMS? http://www.xmms.org/download.php

ESIX is right, xmms is a good solution. Been around for a while and is pretty stable. What version of linux are you running?

doesn't ubuntu have the package apt? or yast? something like that...
Those packages will download and compile any program so long as you know the name of it. They should even take care of any prereqs needed.
EDIT: Just checked and I am pretty sure ubuntu uses apt. Try "apt get xmms". May need some other switches to make it get any needed files.

Its in a package, it just won't install. It shows that the package is on my desktop. Oh yeah, I'm using Python (I think) as a compiler.
edit: Still won't work, even through "Python". I'm using the newest version of Ubuntu.

MPlayer I believe can play MP3s.
You still need to install the correct mulitmedia codecs though. If you don't have it already, get Automatix2. Then install them.
xmms running at ubuntu in the package list is it -> synaptic or in a terminal "sudo apt-get install xmms"

Amarok FTW. Just make sure you install the Xine packages to get mp3 playback.
Theres full instructions on the Ubuntu Docs site.
Amarok install is "sudo apt-get install amarok", and Xine involves quite a few things, but its worth it in the end, and its fairly easy to do.
