The title speaks for itself. This is a very old plan that I am actually getting to this summer. Comments/ideas/criticisms welcome. I have a whole bunch of questions I need to get started, and any answers you can give me are greatly appreciated! (Major +rep bonuses...)

-Plans-
Motherboard Cover (Similar to Defyant's)
Porsche-shaped curves and lines
Stealthed Drives with rewired buttons and LEDs
Glass touch-panel eject buttons
White lighting
Tinted window
Porsche Charcoal-grey paint job
Speaker grill for front and top fans
LED-Plexi Slats on Porsche grill
Porsche Symbol backlight white acts as HDD Light
Similar Interior Layout to Antec P180B
Rear 5.25" drive bay for 5.25" PSUs
More to come...

-Sketch-
I have modified this heavily since that picture, I get a picture of the newest plans soon.

I've been getting this sketch exactly the way I wanted since I made this original post. I've modified it so my friends don't say: "How is that like a Porsche?". If you're Porsche-knowledgeable then you'll definitely see the similarities. Please give me some comments/criticisms of these plans.

Thanx,

I'd get the paint from a car store, should be easy to find something similar. As for carbon fibre you can get sheets of it like wrapping paper with an adhesive back e.g.: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Avery-Carbon-Fiber-look-Vinyl-Sheet-Roll-15-in-x-36in_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ50447QQihZ010QQite mZ200056242853QQrdZ1

if you are going to do a porsche case, plz dont put "carbon look" crap on it. its fake and looks terrible. you can get real carbon cloth on ebay cheap, then use epoxy to make it work for you. or get the really thin carbon panels and cut to specification. and to be honest with you, as a porsche owner, you never see porsches with alot of cf. only accents. good luck on the mod.

Oh nonono, I am putting NO carbon on the outside. Only n00bs put carbon fiber on a porsche. Im using it for parts like the inside of the engine and such...

But where would you get some real carbon panels?

you can find them on ebay. ive bought 12x24 carbon panels in mm thicknesses from various sellers. just do a search on ebay. you can buy the cloth and make molds and make your own custom parts.

Wow, I had to really dig this thread up.

I will start the case this summer. Theres been a couple updates in the plan since december, so check those out at the top. The main difference is that this isn't a mod anymore, I'm building it from scratch.

I have a lot of big/advanced plans for this case and am going to need a lot of help with the details. Thanks in advance.

I my friend would let me borrow his friggin scanner, then I'd show you my plans. I'll get those on here sometime during the week.

I finally got a picture of it on here! I just broke down and took a picture of it with my camera. Comments on the plans, please.

Also, I've seen a couple tutorials on the internet that interested me. The trouble is I can't find them. I have the tutorials listed that I need. Anyone here wouldn't happen to know where any of these tutorials are?

I'm definitely going to need a lot of help on this project, since much of the details require major skills. Thanks for the help in advance...

I hate to be really asky but I can't find the tutorial for this: Does anyone here know how to rewire the button and LED on an optical disk drive so that they go to one the useless rear pins? I saw a tutorial on this a long time ago but I can't find it again.

Thanks,

I think that was, but damn I forgot how complicated that was. Oh boy...
I found the exact model name: Lite-On SHM-165H6S. I wonder if I could get a PCB layout for that...

If you could make it any simpler than the on above then I would love you forever. JK, but seriously I could seriously use an easier one...

Thanks,

OK, i am almost done with the planning stage. I have a few more questions that need some answering:

-What is the best way to sculpt sections/pieces in shapes and curves like a car?
-How do I make touch-panel buttons?
-What should I do about welding certain parts? (I don't have or know anyone has a welder)

Please don't pop the :pics: smiley on me yet, I have alot of planning to do. Sorry for no work yet,

Alright, my first paycheck is coming this friday, and that means I'll finally have cash-moneys to do this mod. I still have a lot of questions though. I don't mean to be impatient, but I really want to get this mod started and I need your help to start it. Here are my main questions:
1)How should I go about wiring a series of 3mm LEDs and connecting them to a molex connector?
2)I do not have a welding machine, but there are two parts that call for welding, what should I do?
3)Where can I get "disk drive"-type buttons?

Thanks,
Indybird

1) that will depend on how many LEDs you are planning on wiring up first. 3-4 could be hooked straight to the 12v if wired in series, 2 could go to the 5v if wired in series. How many and what are you doing, then I'll answer better.

2) Best bet here if it does need welding and can't be done another way is go and see a panel beater or steel shop, show them what you want done and they can probably do it for you on the spot for a small fee (assuming it's not a huge job that is).

3) Do you mean the square type buttons like you find on a DVD ROM drive?

1. http://led.linear1.org/1led.wiz this will calculate any resistors you might need

2.i'd say just search around for someone that can weld and has a welder or else go to some where like a garage and get them to do it.

3.as for the buttons, on a cd drive they are a pice of plastic pushing a surface mount pushbutton switch. Your fave electronics shop would be able to help you out on that one or jut to a bit of googleing.

Hope this helps

EDIT: Dammit you beat me Bucko!

I need to wire up 10 3mm White Leds to light up the plexi-grill.

I dont know of any steel shop around here but Ill look in the phonebook.

calumc, if you're talking about very small buttons (4mmx4mm) then thats what I need. I'll check my local hardware store.

One more question though; what is the best way to make sculpted body panels? I was going to make a foam mold-thingy then do fiberglass over that, but I don't think I'll be able to accomplish exactly what I need. Is there any easier and/or better way of doing that?

Thanks again,
Indybird

I'll be interested to see how you progress on this mod as I've been planning to do a few things similar with my mod (specifically the dvd mod and touch sensitive buttons), but I won't be able to do much if anything this summer until mid-late August.

Good luck.

Sadly since I haven't been able to find a way to make (preferably easily make) touch-sensitive buttons, I think I might just have to do glass normal buttons.

I have all the final plans/specs done, I'll upload it soon. The only problem is that this case is going to freaking huge: 24.25"(616mm) Tall, 8.5"(216mm) Wide, 22.75"(578mm) Deep!

Hey Tech-Daddy is back! You haven't been on for a while, have you?

Glad, you liked the picture, but could you give me a link to where you posted it? I just wanna see it there.

Neeways, I've been slacking REALLY bad on this project. I promised everyone here I'd get it started in the summer, and now its december. I know this probably isn't anything anyone was excited about, but I'm sorry for delaying. Around Christmas I'll be starting this because I'll have spare cash for buying materials.

i missed it, but i assumed that you had problems that prohibited you from doing this.

Like myself, i planned to mod my current system, but due to money issues, and now i discover my PSU dosen't have enough umph to do what i want, and ontop of that the PSU included is propitery so i can't change it, I am thinking of hotwiring a PSU and mounting it enternally, not sure yet, still waiting on money for new GFX card.
