4500 mph..not bad. 17,000 mph tops needed to get into orbit...insane
I always enjoy watching these live launches. There's just a whole different feel to it all, watching it right as it happens. Last month the Science Channel had live HD broadcasts from inside the space station. Now that was amazing.

that is so cool when the main engine seperates from the orbitor...great placement of the camera.
That was one of my favorite parts. The burst of light illuminating everything, showing the bottom of the shuttle.

Yeah that was sick when the fuel tank broke away and you could see the bottom of the shuttle.

A ground station about 3 mins drive away from me provides telementary and communications for the shuttle and the ISS when they pass under Australia. This is the fasest moving thread ever.
Its sweet how when the rocket flares up at the start of take off and it becomes as bright as day for like miles around.

Anybody ever watch the NASA robotics competitions? My school competes in those -- We're US. Team 675 -- Tech High.

Well... there was that Britney Spears thread on that other forum.... :bunny:
I wish I still got the Nasa channel. We stopped getting it about 2 years ago. I do miss the live launches, those were amazing.
OH, btw, I found out I got accepted to Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in Prescott AZ! So starting next September I will be on my way to becoming a rocket scientist (Aerospace Engineering baby)!

I live in central Florida so I was watching it on live TV and through my window! Looked like a shooting star or firework from the ground.
Heres to hoping they don't have any problems with the bottom panels coming off or with the the ISS's (International Space Station) power systems (they are going up there to rewire the space station).

After reaching orbit they encountered an ET but it was DOA so they sent it to thier onboard CSI to extract its DNA. I saw this on CNN.

Discovery is currently docking with the ISS (http://www.nasa.gov/multimedia/nasatv/live_tv.html)--pretty cool .10 feet per second and orbiting at 17k mph...nuts Apparently they will be 'mating' over Australia ;)
You can watch them work on the Space Station live right now!

yeah it looks pretty cool from the view of the helmet-cams!! They must have to be in direct sunlight to warm up all the cables prior to switching them out--must be really challenging to work in that environment where there is no leverage and moving a cable even slightly will have an effect on the entire space station.

Wow, that's really smooth considering! Nice stream...looks like he's having a bit of trouble with that cable at the moment.

You can track the space shuttle in real time using a java plugin on this NASA site
http://spaceflight.nasa.gov/realdata/tracking/index.html
Also you can use this site to put in your location and see when different satellites including the ISS is visible over your location.
