It seems that since I unsecured my network this morning (problems with my brother's laptop connecting), a guy living a few doors down from me has decided to leech off my wireless lan. His laptop is showing up as 'Howard' in my DHCP table.

If I was a nasty person, I would pull a few pranks on his machine... I'm not a nasty person....but if I were, what would be a good prank to play?

just set your network to only allow approved MAC adresses. Then only register your computers. That should get rid of him.

Haha...if he was running a linux box, you could make a text editor pop up with messages in it.

We keep doing it to each other in the labs with nonsense such as "lol i haxrd u fag, ur mom noob rofl".

Run down the road, kick his door in, then smack him upside the head with his laptop.

hee hee. In the end I went next door to fix my friend's network, and his wireless was picking up a belkin router... I connected to it and tried to access the router's diagnostics. I was successful (absolutely no password whatsoever - thats what you get for buying a belkin router.) and from there I could see the other pcs in the dhcp client list. I looked around for a bit until I found a shared printer! So I printed off a message asking him to disconnect and he did :)

haha...that's actually pretty good. Very subtle. I'll have to remember this one.

I would secure that with WEP and MAC address filtering. Nice way of nessing with him though.

My way is WPA-TKIP and no DHCP server. If its just some n00b kid, they would be foiled by the fact they have no IP :P

I used to have my network open for a little bit. Occasionally I'd go in and just look at the people trying to take it from me, then mess around with them. Eventually I decided to just put up a MAC address filter.

WPA saves the day. Don't use WEP it can be cracked.

my security feature is not having a wireless network... wires can still handle more even though wireless is creeping up. a little more reliable too, not vulnerable to large metal obstacles. only downside is you have to run the wires through the walls, but my dad is an electrician and my brother will be soon, so they do all that.

My computer and the other computer in my house are wired. Except for my laptop and my dads laptop as we use them all over the house. Also my PSP isn't wired obivously.
