If by "will this all work," you're wondering if it's compatible, most of it will. The only components you really have to worry about regarding compatibility are the mobo, CPU and RAM. The only thing that won't work is the RAM; you want to purchase DDR 400, but this particular mobo doesn't support it. Try shopping for DDR2 533, which should come in 240-pim dimms; this is what the mobo supports. It seems that DDR2 and PCI express are really starting to take over... :(

I did not check your peripherals, because I'm just giving you tips for compatibility. However, I'm going to break that rule and recommend that you get an SATA hard drive instead of an IDE one. SATA is apparently faster than IDE and the extra bucks can't hurt. Save the IDE port on the mobo for the DVD drive. I hope this helps, happy shopping. :)

Looks good to me. :) Of course, it'd probably be a good idea to get a second opinion regarding actual performance. I know all these parts will work together, but some of them are a little new for me to judge the tech specs.

Anyone else here willing to comment?

haha so the reason you dont like AMD is coz they have model numbers and not Ghz? look at it this way, AMD 3000 = Intel 3.0Ghz. However, AMD 3000 will beat Intel 3Ghz in any game. dont be afraid of something only because you dont know it.

MrSlacker

Plat. is nForce 4 ULTRA and Neo4-F is regular nForce4, more PCI slots, SATA2. Neo4-F is a budget choice.

Xato
05-27-2005, 12:42 AM
yeh, i've been running my 2600+ at 2.3ghz for too long with MX440 (*cries in corner*) for too long. I dont know whether i should wait for dual core or just get a nice SLI setup.

MisterChief
05-27-2005, 01:01 PM
If you run heavy applications at the same time, dual core is for you. If you're a gamer, then I would get an SLI setup.

NOTE:Ageia will be releasing it's PPU (Physics Processing Unit) at the end of this year. It will come in two models: PCI and PCI-Ex1. It will do for the processor what video cards did in the past: Free up clocks that used to be reserved for physics calculations, which will be handled by the PPU. That looks like something worth investing on!

Starting price will be between $150-$400, I think. Check it out for yourselves:

the big problem with the ppu is that they need to write games on it. there are some companies that are in contract with ageia but it is unknown how much money and effort they are going to put into the ppu. it might be a wonderful technology but it is not certain if it will take off or not. in the first months/years there wont be a lot of ppl buying it (because there wont be many games to utilize it and the cost), if ppl dont buy it, programmers and companies wont make the effort to develop it and it will be past. i dont think anyone would pay $400 for it, but who knows whats up in the future...

once when i was 7 yrs old, i was playing on my next door neighbors lawn. i thought i was all cool walking around with my wallet which had my birthday money in it (a whopping $40, which is 1 million when your 7, and plut it was like 28 yrs ago). anyway in the midst of my joyous cavorting i ended up loosing my wallet and my birthday money. it was prolly the saddest day of my 7 yrs on the planet. :(

that is until i just sat here and real thru all 11 pages of this thread...

heres a tip for you my freind dont play on your neighbors lawn with your birthday money. when you get your computer budget, buy a dell. :D

that was actually 2 tips, but eh, whatever...
