View Full Version : Good Printers?
Hey everyone, heres the deal, we have had this Dell all in on printer for about 3 years now. Not the best, but got the job done. But my parents were having trouble printing envelopes with it. This has proven to be a major probelm everytime we need to send out inventations/christmas letters/whatever. So my mom went out and bought a brand new HP printer. Damn nice machine, beautiful colors, CF slot for the camera, USB port for another camera, plus, my favorite, built in WiFi so it connects to our wireles network, was a bit pricey though. But again, as was the problem with the Dell, it will not print envelopes so we're going to have to return it. I'm getting tired of crappy printers, I was wondering if anyone could recommend a good reliable printer for a decent price.
Well alright, This is sort of simple. Go with a Laserjet. These arn't exactley "Color" printers, there black and white, but belive me, these things are life savers. I have an old one, and I print ALOT, and like 5 years, still never hdad to replace ink, not to mention there durable as ****! I think they make color ones too!

Dell printers are rebranded Lexmarks, so steer clear of them. I have been buying Epsons for years, and stick to the 6 color cartridge versions, its more economical than the combo types. awesome color print outs.
Here's a nice color laserjet from HP. Nice machine.. I've used them before.

I myself have a Lexmark on this computer (flatbed scanner and all), and an Epson photo printer in the basement with the 6 cartridges, memory card slots, and it's capable of printing on CDs.
Year for color printers go with epson, for black & white go with Laser Jet
I print only text and I highly recommend business class HP laserjet series. If you go on ebay, there are many worthwhile printers pulled from offices due to contracts being up that still have years of life left in them.
A few weeks prowling ebay for them and 500 bucks can get you a business printer that will last you 20 years and do 30 pages a minute without problems.
If you want inkjets, epson and canon are your best bet.
If you want color laser, I suggest HP.
I would avoid lexmark entirely. In my IT experience, HP printer repairmen are cheaper and more common. The way lexmark printers are designed is also much more difficult to deal with from a maintenance or repair perspective.

HP printers are great but the cartridges cost lots. You can use cheap cartridges that aren't HP ones for day to day stuff but if you want something to last and not fade use HP cartridges.
You can get your toner cartridges refilled or buy generic brand(ie staples) that work fine for home use.
Is it that big of a deal to lose 5,000 pages out of the life of a toner cartridge? Not really. Not for the difference in price.
As for ink, I would avoid that like the plague. Ink is more expensive, more of a hassle and messy.
