I'm looking to start a bit of a project which involes a bit of polycarbonate and was wondering if anybody had any experience with painting it. I'm looking to take clear polycarbonate and paint the back and edges white and I'm curious as to how opaque the plastic will become with increasing numbers of coats.

Does anybody have any experience doing this? If so, what sort of paint types and painting methods did you use? Any help is appreciated, thanks.

I'm still fairly new to case modding. but I've been expiramenting with Car paint, I forget the brand name off the top of my head. But here's what I've learned so far:

1) Make sure the surface is CLEAN!
2) don't use acahol based cleaners
(Soap and water with a paper towel works fine)
3) make sure the surface is DRY!

As for the coating, I alway try to work is thin coats. It's a loooot less trouble to build up a good coat, then to strip and redo a bad thick coat.
I painted the side window of my old case, each stroke took about 3-4 seconds and produced initally a dark haze, but after 4 such coats, it was very black except when held up to sunlight, spot light, stuff like that. The line shines through and shows you the strokes of the paint. Donno if like LEDs and such would shine through though.

If your looking to make it completely opaque, use a primer first. I forget the make but theres a primer specifically for plastics that give it a texture similar to paper. Once you prime it you can paint it any color you want with any paint. But like Maverike-prime said, avoid alcohol based cleaners, or you'll run the risk of dissolveing the plastic ;)
