My mom called me last night asking me if I'd be willing to build a new computer for my dad, she's got a couple of cheapies that she wants me to make a workable computer out of, and a budget. He doesn't need anything with a lot of processor power or video, but my dad's a big car nut. He and I have worked on cars together since I was a little kid, he loves muscles cars, his favorite being the 1970 Chevelle SS. So, after talking with my mom. I decided to do a special Chevelle themed comp for him. The color scheme is going to be similar to the pic below, I'm working on getting some chromed bits for the case, like the SS Logo, and Chevelle. Anyhow, thought I'd post and see if anyone had any thoughts? After seeing the Super Bee mod a while back I was encouraged.

Some ideas:
- You gotta have the stripes on it.
- If youre able, try to mimic the front of the car on the front panel of the PC
- ^ I.E. 4 LED lights, grill, nose shape etc.
- Badges/logos/symbols are a must.
- Maybe etch the car itself on a sheet of plexi?

I'm thinking of actually replicating the hood on the top of the case, but making it functional. With a couple of fans underneath the cowl to suck in some air. As for the front yeah I'm definitely wanting to do a grill with the SS emblem. I've been making a few calls trying to find a few aftermarket parts. If anyone's got some ideas on where I can find some bits online let me know. Thanks for the feedback ESX.

if you want, and if it's practical size wise, then i'd say:
Cut out a round window the size of the rims on the side.
Cover it up with mesh and maybe a fan behind it.
Then put one of the car rims onto it.

if you want somehow let it spin but i dunno if that'd be such a good idea. Better if it's fixated.

That is a nice Chevelle, great inspiration for a mod. I would try to work in the hood-pins somewhere and maybe add an analog gauge inside the comp in the corner of the side-widow. Kind of like the extra gauge found on the dash. The optical drive door would be nicely stealthed as the grill between the headlights. And a power switch modeled to look like one of those hot rod shift sticks...

If you can do it to your comp (it's possible), you can use a 10k RPM Tach to display CPU Usage. That's be sick as hell.

Also, I'm sure it's been done already but it would look pretty cool if you sleeved your cables with that steel woven tubing used in aftermarket kits.

Yeah that would be nice to. Have the case in the colors of the car.

This is a nice component that sits in a 5 1/4 inch drive bay. It kinda looks like the dial out of a car.

You could always get him one of these.

I got the case today, and some of the parts. And ... the fun money. So, I'm ordering some parts tomorrow. The project is now called 427 SS. My mom also found another computer that was about to be thrown out where she works, and she thought I'd like it. She was right. So now I have yet another project to work on YAY. I needed a lan box anyhow :P

This is probably going to be etched into a plexi window on the side.

Gauges on the front, and a custom two tone blue paint job with rally stripes. Braided hosing to hide the wiring inside, and an SS Emblem Fan cover. I actually think it's going to look pretty cool when it's done. So, I'm gonna get to work, expect more soon as well as a new worklog.

You know what else would be sweet? Some chrome exhaust pipes, either straight off the rear of the case or if you're really ambitious you could make headers that exit the side of the case and follow the edge to the rear. That would scream American Muscle Car!

That's a great idea, but you should put a fan behind the exhaust and then put some LED's into them.
