First I'd like to say hi to everyone here (first post  ).
Second, can anyone tell me where i can find the bare bones of an atx case? I tried searching all over the internet and I'm not even sure what to call it. I just want the bare mounting bracket for the mobo along with the back of the computer for all the outputs and the cdrom/hdd bays. Anyone know where I can find it or what the technical name for it is?
Thanks.

First of hey and welcome to the forum i presume what u want is the motherboard tray and backplate I dont know if they sell them seperatly my advice would be to buy a really cheap case 10-20 pound and take everything u need off it hope that helps if not ah well:D

I was thinking about doing that, but I was told that you can buy the whole deal all by itself (for like 10$). Someone pointed me to directron.com but I searched high and low and couldn't find it. Main problem is I'm not sure exactly what to call it.

Well your location might help us. I'm sure there are modders strewn across here, GruntvillE, MNPCTech and [H]ardOCP that could help you find something locally.

Sorry for the late response. I live in florida near the tampa bay area. The main thing is, I might want to make a few cases from scratch. So if anyone knows exactly what I'm talking about and where to buy it would be great.

Well all I can suggest is finding a place that sells mid-ATX towers for cheap, buy one, and find your 1/8th drill bit, then drilling out all the rivets and taking what you need.
Hope this helps.

Well, I know what you're talking about. The motherboard tray & the metal thing behind it, right?
I doubt you'll be able to find those two parts exclusively.
Motherboard also come with their own backplates, since not all motherboards have the same outputs and in the same location.
You could just buy a cheap case and then dismember it like this

Actually, I've never seen a motherboard come with a tray. As far as I know, the different form factors all have standards as to where the holes go.
I didn't say it would come with a tray.
Ok, I can't think of any computer stores in the Tampa Bay area off the top of my head (I spent 1/2 my summer there a couple years ago) but I do know there is a Tigerdirect in Miami. Now that may not seem to help since its probably a bit far to drive for a $10 case, but it does mean shipping should be really cheap assuming its coming from that store, and it should arrive extremely fast. So I would recommend checking out www.tigerdirect.com , they have mid tower cases starting at $10 that would offer some nice parts to you project, if nothing more you will have you mobo mounting bracket.
