Project Makeshift
External link soon
------------------------------------------
Well, I've finally started my worklog on Project Makeshift (my cryo idea, remember?).
I however wont be working on my main case, because its troublesome kinda, so I'll be working on a different case for my P3 system.
I expect this to take less than a month, but who knows.
Here are some photos of the case in its current state. A lil bit dirty, I know, just taken it out from my tool shed:

Side - http://img412.imageshack.us/img412/6316/sidejb5.jpg

---------------
Later today I'll advance to Stage 1 - Cleaning it, taking it apart, sanding and making holes.

I have exactly the same case I am working on in my project except the front bezel.. About your motherboard. I have a really old with an AGP slot, I don't know if it's P3, but it's intel and runs at 733 MHz, but there is one problem linked with the motherboard I think. I tried running yesterday and it would not let me run 2 IDE devices at the same time. When the CDROM worked, the hard drive wouldn't and vice versa.
A little update:
Marking the holes to be cut.

Holes cut off.

Remember my first etch and that grill like piece of metal I had to take off? I just used the same piece of grill here, but polished it up so it looks cool.

More updates hopefully tomorrow.
Didnt do much today, because of school and the holiday.
Did some more marking on the case for holes, sanded it a bit, made my own turbine fan, got some more ideas.
I hope that this week I'll finish the bodywork, and get to the painting stage.
Photos tomorrow. ;)
Okay, so I've done a few things today:
- Make my turbine fan.
- Cut the front intake, polish around it.
- Polish the drive trays.
- Make the fan/light switch holder (that floppy slot thingie).
- Installed mobo.
And now for some eye candy!
What happens when you take Broken Ornament + Hot glue + Fan? Turbine fan! :D

This is how it looks in the end.

Finished the switch thingie.

Time to finish for today, this is how the front looks so far.

Mobo in place, so are the trays.

Polished metal, mmmmmm.

This is all for today.
Tomorrow Im going to cut the big grill holes if I get enough time.
Oh yea, also, I wont use plexi in this project, only maybe 1 or 2 small windows made with plastic.

Nice so far, that little blue half sphere reminds me of those big spheres you see in people front lawns to keep squirrels out lol, keep it up
Its time for an update boys and girls!
Can you guys guess what these parts are for? Anyone? Well, just read on! :bunny:

Cutting a nuclear warning sign in the blue plastic window.
http://blind.dx-t.net/makeshift/3/2.jpg
Shaping it to be precise using these tools. Not a laser cut in the end, but I never knew I could do that, must be modder blood in my veins.:smoker:
http://blind.dx-t.net/makeshift/3/3.jpg
Oh my god, whats that? :O That has to be one of the best parts of the upcoming mod :P A "window".
http://blind.dx-t.net/makeshift/3/4.jpg
Now the FUN part begins! Rusting it all up! AWESOME!, check out the result!! :D
http://blind.dx-t.net/makeshift/3/5.jpg
More rust on the insides of the case.

Yea, it does look more like blood, because I dont know how to draw rust and I've got only one color (Rust Red). But heck, Im happy with however it is :)

you could burn the paint a bit after its dry
use a lighter to heat it up a bit, it will turn a bit more brown try on some scrap, see how it looks

MMM the blood looks yummy... :)
Theres going to be lots of it, unless I can make it look like rust :P
Well, one more update :D
Im of course sorry for not doing much today, thats because I've had no ideas and no inspiration :/
BTW, 400th post!!
So, here we go.
Marking the left door for cutting.
http://blind.dx-t.net/makeshift/4/1.jpg
Hole cut, and sanded. I came to the conclusion that I wont be using huge ass windows that you basically see in every mod these days :P Just small ones, and prolly mesh only.
http://blind.dx-t.net/makeshift/4/2.jpg
Oh my! I've found another speaker grill! +1 bloody window? maybe...
http://blind.dx-t.net/makeshift/4/3.jpg
So, after painting "rust" again, or at least trying to, this is what I've got. (anyone knows how to paint rust with enamel paint?)
http://blind.dx-t.net/makeshift/4/4.jpg
Heres the outcome "rust" texture in close.
http://blind.dx-t.net/makeshift/4/5.jpg
I could swear that there was a dry brush technique for rust somewhere around here. I can't find it tho. Maybe someone with first hand experience with it can chime in. Keep up the good work. Looks good so far.

I have seen a couple of techniques for rust, I used to like building models when I was younger. You can of course often find "rust" colored paint (sometimes it looks pretty good), you can mix various colors (I would use way less red though and more tan/orange/burnt sierra/gold/dark brown/etc..) and paint it over a powder base. You can use sticks of chalk(got this off google), orange is best, and scrape off a fine powder, dissolve it in rubbing alcohol and paint is several coats. The rubbing alcohol should create a sufficient fixative which you can paint your color over when it dries. I have also seen people make their own rust colored paint in college, clear base mixed with....actual rust. Find some old iron and scrape it into a mortar and pestle and grind up some real rust paint.
Went to a hobby shop today, and bought these:
Anita's All Purpose ACRYLIC Craft Paint - 11012 Orange
Anita's All Purpose ACRYLIC Craft Paint - 11027 Burnt Umber
Anita's All Purpose METALLIC Craft Paint - 11207 Copper
Rekab 40 Size 1 synthetic brush.
When they have black in stock, i'll take that and silver metallic.
Rust tryouts soon.
You thought I disappeared? hell naw!
Some eye candy:
I finally did some 'rust'! :) Thanks a lot Crimson!

Nicelly done
I like your power switch
Why not cut one or two holes on the fan grill?
Well, it looks like Im going to be doing some modifications to the way I paint rust, so consider the last Images a tryout-type-of-thing.
About the grill, maybe, I'll take that idea into consideration, thanks! :)
