300 - The Movie (http://300themovie.warnerbros.com/)
Well I can remember a bit about Spartans being something like gods of war back from my World History class. But how accurate is 300 against thousands? I thought it was more like two thousand Spartans against like fifteen thousand enemy?
Well take aside the historical inaccuracy and hollywood glorification's and it looks like a pretty sweet movie. What do you guys think? Instant classic (like Gladiator), one hit wonder (like LOTR), or a failed attempt to create a low budget film worth seeing? (Battlefield Earth) <-- :shivers:

The spartans had an amazing technique -- the phalanx. It's a mass of people, shieldmen in front, pikemen behind, that moves as one spikey wall. You'll notice that ancient battles start with a stand off, then a charge, and the fight. The Phalanx almost always guaranteed victory, if I'm not mistaken.
Also, the way they organized their soldiers was different. Most people would have their hero sort of fighters on the right side of the line for instance, and conscripts on the left, but spartans reversed theirs.
so, 300 against thousands? Spartans vs. Others? Probably.
I love ancient battle movies with massive battles :D
I dont know much about spartans, but I'll watch it :)

Actually, it really was 300 against 10 000. I love the Spartan history. They are like heros for me. Even Socrates based his teaching on the Spartan model.
This film is not bad, but totally CGI and american style. One of my best friend was video assist on this prod and he said that it will be good for those who like action movies.
SnowFire, you thought LOTR was a one trick pony? While gladiator was a classic? Are you on drugs?
I don't go out for the sweeping epic battle films most of the time. Not my groove. I like guns.

LOTR is a classic too. It's just that it is very long and alot of the people I know never want to watch it because of that. So I call it a one hit wonder. I call gladiator a classic just because I can't think of anything that I don't like about that movie. Sooner or later it will become outdated though.
You like guns huh? How bout some clint eastwood then!

300 looks good. It's based on the Frank Miller (Sin City) Graphic Novel, so don't expect historical accuracy. Expect a ridiculously over-stylised movie.

All I know is that I love the trailer, and can't wait to see it in theaters--I could go for some Clint Eastwood...I think I'll go watch Pale Rider again...or The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly.

Clint Eastwood is old school action hero. He's made some great movies.
Sin City was fantastic, I might check this out if it's a Frank Miller vehicle once it hits DVD.
One of my favorite action films of all time is Boondock Saints. Fantastic film.

It's all based on a comic book anyway...

Not to dig up old posts, but when I saw a post on this I could not justify making a new thread.
I just had to say something. I JUST saw this movie. Now I am not a big movie goer and this was a movie I really wanted to see. I just watched it right now. This movie was pretty freaking awesome.
My question. What other movies are there like this? I have seen gladiator, but other than that I can not think of a lot of movies like this I have seen. And I want to see more. Please, anything you guys can think of name it, as I don't go out to the movies to often so I probably haven't seen it.
If you guys can't think of anything, the girlfriend ordered this on ON-Demand and we have it for 24 hours so I might have to watch it another 6 times lol.
Again, not to bring posts from the dead, but I can't bring myself to waste a new thread on something directly relating to my reaction from this movie.

When Mrs. Garrison found some friends in a special bar called "Les Bos" and it was bought out by the Persians.

I remember that now... that episode was hilarious. I do like the one where Mr. Garrison gets the surgery to make him Mrs. Garrison too. Kyle's dad in dolphin form was hysterical.

As much as I love the satire and parodies South Park presents, I was looking more for an action type movie similar to 300 or Gladiator. Troy couldn't keep my attention for some reason... I can't think of any others. Come on guys :p I am desperate.

Actionwise, one film that comes to mind would be Braveheart.
And for some reason, the first Blues Brothers movie comes to mind as well.

Maybe I will have to watch braveheart again. Its been quite a while since I have watched it.
I like things based off older times. Rome, Greece, Scotland, Egypt. Keep the suggestions coming if you guys have any.
And that wasn't exactly what I had in mind Ryo :p

I though it was a good movie. And a similar battle did happen. I saw it on the history channel. The Spartans were a warrior culture and focused mostly on its own army. As for alot of it, fake. They did not kill like 10000 people and there were no giants or ninja zombie things. Obviously but you never know were you'll see and undead ninja.

Actually they did kill 10,000 soldiers, possibly more. The one fact that is not true is that there werent only 300, there was about 7,000 soldiers from several of the city-states in Greece. As for action movies, if you havent seen it yet go see I Am Legend. That movie is awesome beyond words. It just blew me away.
The Battle of Thermopylae (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_Thermopylae)
I know a lot of wikipedia stuff is called "fake", but i watched a show on the History Channel about this and it was pretty close to what they said in this article.

Just a warning, the end of I Am Legend is a huge letdown. Ruined the whole film for me

How can you hate that ending?!?! :( I'm sorry, too many people have said that to me and it makes me mad. To me, it was an incredibly amazing, sad and suspenseful movie, the best that i have seen in a VERY long time. I just dont understand why people hate the end. :?
