My brother wants me to upgrade his computer with a new video card. These are the two best cards in his price range that I could find. But which is better? They both have something over the other so I am unsure which is better. Good thing I know that we have some pretty GPU knowledge packed people here!

So what do you think?

I'd pick the X800GT.

GDDR3
HDTV output
78 > 14 in Reviews, showing its a very popular, perhaps more preferred card.
256-bit interface
Cheaper; less sometimes is more.

Okay, well now he doesn't even want a video card. lol damn little punks and there indecisiveness! ...hmmm, sounds familiar. lol

Well I still would like to know which is better if only for knowledge sakes, so the question still stands.

Thanks guys.

See thats what I was thinking too. But the other one has more pixel pipelines, a higher core clock, and more features?

Higher core clock doesn't always mean its instantly better. It also depends on the components that compliment that core, like GDDR3 and 256-bit interface, over 128-bit.

from what i remember the x800gt doesnt have shader model 3 were as the x1600 does but i think if thats how much you would want to spend you would be better off with something like a 7600gs or a 6800 gpu

I think I would go with THIS (http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductCompare.asp?Category=38&Nty=1&N=2000380048+4027&Submit=ENE&SubCategory=48&CompareItemList=N82E16814131420%2CN82E16814102048% 2CN82E16814143054) X1300XT over the X800. It's like three dollars more than the X800 but it has better reviews and specs. It's also cheaper than the cheapest 7600GS which is about the same for the most part. It's also made by Sapphire. Which is a pretty good brand.

So I am just going to guess that even though the X800 has a great memory interface, for the price it just isn't as good as that X1300XT for example.

I think I actually might pick up that card as soon as I get some cash. I am in need of a new video card now. haha... Did I cut it wrong?

Well why photochop it off when you can just chop the whole thing off for real right? lol

Actually that card was giving my trouble in dual monitor displaying. It was buggy, I think the problem was the heatsink. I could of probably fixed it with some reapplication of arctic silver. Eh, oh well though. ^_^

Instead of fixing it, its a good excuse to make people convinced its broke. But do it around the time of your birthday. :D
