my parents decided to take a trip to Florida to see our relatives. we will be driving there so its gonna be 24+ hours drive. i dont want to die from boredom so we will have 2 laptops with us to watch movies and stuff like that. so my question is, what is the best car surge that can power 2 laptops. i found these http://www.apc.com/resource/include/techspec_index.cfm?base_sku=PNOTEAC75

I think it would do the trick for one laptop. i believe laptops have a dc input and a small inverter. now you'll have two inverters when you could have zero :) if you found out the dc input of the laptop(if its dc) you could make a custom laptop adapter without an inverter with more efficiency, and it could possibly work with two laptops. my 0.02 dollars :D

to be honest, i just want to buy a ready inverter and not worry about it. i am probly gonna get this 1 http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/B00006BBKM/qid=1117592019/sr=1-2/ref=sr_1_2_etk-electronics/104-8773930-5003916?v=glance&s=electronics&n=172282 because its is 350W and has 2 oputlets

I honestly don't know enough about power distribution with an inverter in a car. But you need to be careful not to fry the battery or the alternator

my dad said that we can hook it up to the generator so it wont eat any power from the battery....

Yeah, I was gonna say something like that. Slacker, maybe you should bring an extra battery, just in case...

well, I had a friend fry his car's electrical system because he had too much plugged into an inverter on his car. The warranty would not cover it because it was not used as intended. I would just be careful with power draw. Laptops should have fairly low power draw but I would just be careful
