Why would I claim to be the luckiest modder ever?

I just stumbled across some FREE 1/2" plexi glass. (actually, I've just discovered there's some 5/8" stuff in there too!)

I work for a town in central Alberta, and the rink was recently retrofitted with tempered glass.. all the plexi from 2 rinks was taken down and dropped into storage. There wasnt really a plan for how to dispose of it, and chance had me ask the right person the right question, and it's all mine!

Me: "Do you know where I can buy 1/2" plexi?"

him: "Go to the arena, and take all you want."

me: "!@#*(!@%^#^!@#!!!!!"

Now granted, some of the stuff is pretty marked up from pucks, sticks, faces, etc. I figure for sculpting pieces though, the appearance of the stuff doesnt really matter, as it'll all be sanded and polished up anyways.

Just now though, I pulled a 4'x4'x1/2" chunk out from behind some signs, and it's in almost perfect condition.
I havent taken a total yet of how much there really is, but needless to say I filled up the back of my truck, and hardly made a dent. I'll be going back. Pics to follow...

The moral of the story is: go to your local arena, and ask.. maybe they've done the same, and can hook you up.

Lol.. and this morning I was excited that I got a good deal on some 1/4" scraps at the local glass shop. (I work with the owners wife)

Heh.. this kinda puts that deal to shame. I'm now on ebay looking up some bulk LED/resistor packages. Might have to build something absolutely stupid.. like a desk. haha! :D

I used to play hockey and still would if there was a casual league I could join. My favorite semi-pro team is the American's. I have a lot of sweet rookie gear from guys that went pro out of the team. I'm sure some of it is worth quite a little bit.

lol the plexi is the "glass" panels that protects the fans from the pucks. The ice arena "is" ice. :p

I"m taking my camera in tomorrow to get pics of it. I've already set aside a 4'x4' square.. going to be a huge Edmonton Oilers logo.. probably around a 36" circle.

Looks like the oilers case is a go also, but he wants to use his existing computer for the mod.. I"ll get pics of that also tomorrow.

You know whats even more funny than that? I love hockey! Its the only sport I like. ...well that and its the only sport I can get the suites too. Gotta love connections! ;)

It's scattered all around the rink, but I did get a couple pieces back to the office already. Probably about 2 truck loads of good usable stuff.. the rest will need loads of polishing to deal with pucks and whatnot.
