Hello all,

I have wanted to mod a case for some time, and am planning to do so soon.

I have not purchased any cases / hardware / tools yet. In other words, I'm starting off on a clean slate.

I've checked out Aero's threads on guides. They seem really useful. I plan on using his instructions a great deal.

I know a lot about computers, since I'm going to school for them, but my college doesn't teach us anything in terms of using tools, so I guess I'll have to teach myself. For my first mod I'm thinking of something not too complex, since it will difficult enough with the learning curve.

I would like to make a custom box that is a cube, rather than a normal rectangular case. Does anyone have suggestions of what case to purchase, and then mod? Do people usually start off buying a case and then modding it, or buying parts and putting it together, or what? I have no clue.

Also, if anyone has suggestions on an easy (beginner level) mod that would still pull off a decent look, feel free to let me know. Suggestions are great at this point.

Thanks in advance!

- Tim

get a case that you like and start modding it.
First make simple adjustments, like placing a led-fan or something.
Then try something a little more difficult, like cutting a window and mounting plexi.
After that you can think of more lights (CCFLs), more led-fans.
You can also paint your case to give it a unique look.

That's how I started modding, I had an old computer and cut a window, did lights and stuff...

After you did all that stuff you can see if you want to mod it further or make a new mod, maybe using bondo or putty or some other moddeling-things...

awesome thanks for the advice. I'll probably be buying a case soon. I'll post a reply to let people know how it's going, and if I run into any problems.

Thanks again!

Welcome to the boards, you'll find loads of knowlegable people here and tons of great ideas.

Dont hesitate to ask, there are no stupid questions. :)

I think a cube could be a very cool project, and building one yourself might not be too difficult.
