Hi, Im fixing a computer for somebody and I need a little help.
First, its not letting me copy anything, like the clipboard isn't working.
Second, the email (outlook express) isnt working (it can't send emails out).

Any ideas will be a big help.

Did the owner of the pc have anti spy ware, anti virus, and firewall? Have you tried a virus and spy ware scan? Was the owner downloading something from a unsure source? If yes, try perhaps downloading the same thing and scan it with anti virus to see if you can detect what happened to the computer if no virus or spy ware was seen when you scanned the computer. Sometimes a trojon deletes itself with other nessecary files after it has made a changes it needs

First, Thanks for replying so fast. :)
Second, its not a problem with a virus- I did a virus/spyware scan using a fully-updated McAfee

Thanks,
Indybird

No Problem.

Have you tried some sort of registry fix, perhaps there is an error in the registry cause this conflict.

Ctrl Panel ->Admin Tools ->Syslog

See if there are any errors. A clipboard error is often a task manager problem.

A spyware/virus scan is a requirement. Go to www.download.com and find freeware that works under ME.

Also, it would be a good idea to recommend upgrading. ME is outdated and support/info on it is disappearing. ME also has a tendency to break in ways that modern techs can't troubleshoot because it's based off dos, instead of like 2k/xp, which are nt based.

Another option would be updating ME. The last updates for it made it function closer to 2k than 98SE.

As for the outlook express problem, verify the smtp settings are correct and if there is a firewall installed, make sure the program can go through it, on both the pop3/imap and smtp ports.

I heard windows ME was full of bugs so I'm not surprised.
I searched on google and found this article from 2001 (http://www.pcworld.com/article/id,44150-page,1/article.html)
And if you can't fix the Me problems, try to convice them to upgrade to XP or if you're getting paid a lot maybe it's worth buying it yourself.

Oh, and do you know the Microsoft won't update anything older than 2000

Ditto. Recommend upgrading to XP. Microshaft is dropping all support for 98, ME, and 2k. They will also agree that ME was the biggest cluster in their 30 year history.

Everythings fine now, of course.

ME was supposed to be 2k home, but instead it was a giant flop. Who knew that a modified NT kernel would be more secure and more stable than a badly made GUI over DOS that was prone to crashes and was generally unstable?
Yea, MS ****ed that one up well.

Good to hear you got your problems taken care of.
