......what information do you need? Laptop LCD's can't be used for desktops because they use a different format of input.

.. well, the one i got is busted.. one backlite dead, screen is dead.. but i have recovered 1 of the ccfls.. and am using it.. and i have 2 other screen sto fidget with :)
model: SHARP LM64P713
used in compaq 286/20 laptop
i know it's black and white, 640x480 or 800x600.. i know it uses a different interface than what's common.. but i'm not afraid.. still, the part being a tad older, i can't find a data sheet on it.. it's a 9.5" screen.. not that good, but still.. could be great mod :)

Not totally true. It _can_ be done, but you need to know how to sauter and rewire.
Info on that brand of LCD:
Give us a diagnal measurement of the screen itself, and any Part Numbers or Serial Numbers you can find. Even an FCC ID # would suffice.

As far as i know, the input on laptop LCD's isn't a separate plug or anything. It just simply doesn't use a VGA or DVI input, but rather another Laptop specific input, which you would need a special (i dont think they make one) graphics card to output it.

yeah, that's right. If you have a laptop-screen it will need not only to be rewired (so a VGA or DVI plug will fit) but also you need to build some electronics to it, I believe it had something to do with the drivers.
I once did see someone with a laptopscreen connected to a desktop PC, but he had some real soldering skills and knew very very much about electronics.
I would say it is practically not interesting to try and make a laptop screen work on a normal PC.

... i study electronics, have some soldering experience, can read spec sheets and have access to all kind of tools and even PCB-making-machines :) all i need is to know what does what.. i have taken the screen apart and frankly, there are just a bunch of connections, not that complicated (black and white screen..).. plus, i know how it works in theory, but don't know how to find out myself which pin is for data, which is for power.. and that sort of things..
a newish laptop panel uses direct output from the graphics chip. as far as i know, because the panel works directly with digital data.. but that's as far as i can speculate.. and trying to see what happens when i put 5/12V in is out of the question, as tfts use square signals to work.. not continuous..
so, i still need help.. spec sheet anyone? :D

Allright, here's a picture of some french guy who made his laptop screen work on a desktop. Notice the thing on the right? he put that together himself...

ok.. 10ks :) will research :)it does look complicated, but it's just digital electronics :) i actually have a course that deals with this.. i'm willing to try, but as the pic looks, this is a color screen.. the one i have is b/w with a different video architecture.. b/w too.. so.. we'll see.. thanks again for linky
