I have a little compaq system as a second system. Recently I bought a 7600GS PCI-E card to it (see the started review) Now my problem is that when I run benchmark on it or play CIV4, the vid stop working (did it also before the new vid card) The computer stay on but no more video.

My CPU temp are a bit high (around 55) this could be the problem, but I thind it also can be the poor PSU, or the cheap RAM (1G) Anyone have an idea?

Have you tried downclocking the vid card to see if that makes a difference?

I did not, but I think it's the cpu. I've changed the PSU and the Ram with another system, still have the same problem.

Have you tried tweaking your bios for better PCI-E performance?

The problem is that it's a COMPAQ, no real tweak available... But I just reload the system, and on idle the temps are at 54, so I'll change the CPU heatsink wiht a zalman 7000Cu and see if it help. Thx Jon

does you't monitor go black, like it would be in standby, and the rest of the system is still functioning?
i mean if you push the power button will it shut down...?

man i get the same problem on my vid card...

i'm preaty shure is not the CPU, its the vid card...
a few weeks ago i killed the fan on the GPU cooler, it was making to much noise, i figured that i'm not plaing any games, it dont need a fan,
after a week or so the monitor started to go out, the only way to bring it back to life was to let it cool for a while, today i got a new fan! and it works great.

so... put you'r hand on it, see what it feels like,
AND try this: get rid of that heatsink, it kills the RAM chips, because it stops any air flow from wriching them.
and its not just the RAM chips, its the MOSFT's and all the other thing around ther that can't get cold air on them

I'm afraid you may be right. Damn, I wanted a silent rig...Anyway, thx for the input, I'll try it as soon as I found my old GPU fan in all the boxes I have.
