Hi,
for some reason I get really bad framerates if I use any display other than my normal LCD. I have an X1900XTX w/ Catalyst 6.12. Any Ideas?
Thanx,
Indybird

Can you tell us both the monitors you are using? Which one is the one with normal frame rates and the one with bad frame rates?

That's pretty bizarre.

hmm... maybe it's something with the vsync option.. that's the only thing that comes into mind regarding the interaction between the screen , resolution and refresh/frames... weird thing anyways.. what screens do u use?

My normal monitor is a 20" Sceptre using DVI and I get all kinds of frames on that (usually well over 60). If I connect anything else I get bad frames, usually limited 30 or 60 (And sometimes go lower). I've tried a TV thru component, TV thru VGA, CRT thru VGA and other LCD thru VGA.

Is what CRT?

Lemme clear this up:
Displays it runs really good on:
Sceptre LCD via DVI connector

Displays it runs bad on:
Samsung HD Plasma via Component connector
Samsung HD DLP via VGA Connector
Viewsonic CRT via VGA Connector

I did not found anything for the frame rate problem, but assuming the frame rate is directly affected by the screeen resolution, I found this

# Display Modes Digital Displays (Connected by DVI)
* All Resolutions up to 2560x1600
# Analog Displays (Connected by VGA)
* All resolutions up to 2048x1563

What are the reaction times of each thing?

The Sceptre has 5ms / 85Hz
The Samsung DLP has 8ms / 85Hz
The Samsung Plasma has 8ms / 85Hz
The Viewsonic CRT has 120Hz Refresh Rate

I was guessing that could have something to do with the lower refresh rates of the other devices (but the Viewsonic CRT?).
I'd like to fix this before February 3rd because this is when I have my next lan party.
Thanx again,
Indybird

The monitor could be HDCP compliant, while the rest aren't (the VGA certainly isn't.) Why this would result in bad framerates is beyond me, but that's the only piece of information i can think of that's actually passed back to the computer either way. Which suggests it's a video card problem-possibly drivers. Try rolling back the drivers, and checking for new ones. If rolling back the drivers works, contact the manufacturer with a bug report. Alternatively, try switching to another card, if you have one available.

I had a similar issue a long time ago. When I switched monitors I did not change the profile. Once I changed it to plug and play the monitor it was ok. Like other posters said, check the v-sync option. Some monitors absolutely choke on this some will not even display an image.

You ever get this issue sorted? Curious to know what's causing it.

I haven't had a chance to use those monitors since last last weekend, but I probably will this weekend.

I don't think its v-sync because I never have that on anyways; I barely notice the horizontal tearing. I will definitely try the plug and play option though...

Thanx for the help and concern,

Okay. This may be a tough one. It may be trying to register your LCD for your CRT monitor. If so, just manually adjust the settings on your drivers to better suit the monitor. If that doesn't work, there must be a shortage somewhere...

Oh, yeah. Vsync is only to keep the refresh rate at a constant level, and to allow the card to keep the annoying "black lines" off the screen.

Believe it or not I haven't gotten a chance to use any of those monitors since the last time I posted. Now im on the Samsung 42" Plasma.

How do you set it to Plug and Play?
