I just realized that I have a pair of old floppy drives, the big kind. I looked at the matching set and each one had a little label on the main motor.

STEP. MOTOR M68SP-4
DC 12V 33Ohm 1.8* / STEP
LOT NO. #####

I'm working on a nice mod right now, one with a budget. I would like to stretch that budget as far as a can. Seeing as how its already stretched I may as well.

Anyone got a good idea how i could use two 12 volt 33 ohm step motors?

Can't you make robots out of those or something? I thought I heard that somewhere....

ive seen people make things out of the drives themselves that might be considered robots. but those were regular 3.5 inch drives and the drive was mostly still intact. i prolly cant use these for much, now that i think about it, i doubt they have any torque what so ever, heh.

you have to finde a way to use a programable chip, that control the motor,
because is a STEP motor, if you just feed it curent it will lock up, either that, or try to get lucky and hotwire the circuit board

give it a look, though, maybe think at cd-rom servos,

PS: what are you coocking?

LOL

You could make an hidden IO panel with that... like, pushing the button would make the motors to run and would flip a panel that is hiding your POWER, RESET, USB, 1394, headphone/micro jacks... or some kind of silly things :P

you could make the stepper open and close a venturi or an iris type vent on the side of the case ;) there are inexpensive kits you can buy that will hand control over to the stepper via Serial bus or USB.

You can make one kick-ass CPU/intake-exhaust fan. CFM > Noise

Not with stepper motors, you can't. Well, unless they were huge, perhaps.

I know a bit about stepper motors now, having spent the last year researching and designing my CNC machine, which is controlled by three of them. There are some very simple circuits out there that would work for you, since you aren't looking for a precision cnc machine etc. like I am. Just Google for "stepper controller" or "stepper driver" or "stepper board" etc.

If you want I can give you all my CNC stepper links.
