Disc Read Error

My name is Jax Spades, (Hi Jax....) and I have a problem....

I've been using my PS2 for about 4 years now, and yesterday I noticed it having its first age problem........

It won't read discs anymore. It tries to, and if I let it, in the browser area it says, "Reading disc..." but it never is able to get past that.

It doesn't ever say, "disc read error," it just sits there. I cleaned the Guitar Hero disc, and still....nothing.

I tried other games as well, like THP8, and Ace Combat 5, but still to no avail.

Any help would be great.

I had this problem. I had to get my Playstation replaced. Sorry dude.

Eh...it's old anyways...I can probably get a nice cheap used one around here somewhere....if not, there's always ebay.

One of my friends said he used to tweak the laser when this happened, but he isn't around, and I don't want to hold a cell phone while messing with electronics.............

My friend had this problem and was able to get it working by turning his PS2 upside down... Not sure why that fixed it unless his cd player was just having issues. I laughed at him when he told me that and had to see it to believe it. Sure enough in the upright position, it had the same symptoms you are describing. He turned it upside down and it read it right away...

Hmmmmm.....Well, it could be because it is vertical right now, and I had never done that before--I usually just had it remain horizontal, but in the dorms, you know, space being an issue sometimes.....

I'll move it around, see if it helps.

Wow...I put it back to its horizontal position on my table, and it works.

One last question.....why did Sony make Vertical Stands, and say you can put it vertical, when it has problems like this? Or is it just mine?

You said you used it vertical for 4 years, look to me that it worked well, until the laser get a bit disoriented. Putting it in another side momentary replaced it. Hope for you it will live a long way on this side.

Thanks Minty...yeah, I want it to work, because I was hoping to mod it..........

So far, now that it is horizontal again, it's been working well...tomorrow, I'm going to clean the entire thing out, laser tray, fans, etc....etc..........
