View Full Version : PS3 is depressing

It was so hyped up, then someone I know bought it. PS3 is pretty cool, but I never thought so. Here's some of my views:
Pros-
-Some good graphics (parts, anyways, as explained in the CONS section)
-Shiny... o.O
-Processor (not as quick as the 360, but fast enough)
-HDMI (pretty cool)
-Blu-Ray (one of the best features of the system)
Cons-
-Shaders and mixers on graphics are horrible
-overheating
-Games
-Overrated & advertised way too much
-Noisy Operation
-Same controllers as the PS2 (they make your hand cramp; seem like they were made for stubby fingers)
If they spent a little more time in the design process, I think it would have been a better gaming platform.

That reminds me, a small mod I always wanted to do was to replace that awful fan on the back of the PS2 hehe :)
PS3 will pick up before long. Gonna be a while here in the UK before that happens though, our price for the 60gig will be the equivalent of almost $850 :(

Yikes, thats a steep price!
The only reason I would ever buy a playstation would be for Guitar Hero II. The PS3 has the benefit of Blu-Ray, but I've been hearing that HD-DVD is noticeably better. At least when watching DVD's. <- Source = Diggnation.
I'll stick with my PS2 for Guitar Hero, I'll get a Wii for loads of fun with family and friends, and eventually I'll get a Xbox360 for... um... HALO 3! Which doesn't even come out till what? November this year? That should give me enough time to get my Wii and start saving for the 360!
Have you guys heard of the rumors that the 360 premium will be the price of the standard 360 when Xbox releases it's updated version of the 360 later this year? Any confirmation as of yet?

LMAO. THATS SO TRUE!! If I were to go with either the PS3 or the 360 (which i have and love :p), 360 all the way.

I'm surprised at that considering they made a custom heatsink with heatpipes as can be seen here (http://www.dailytech.com/article.aspx?newsid=4908) and here on video (http://www.engadget.com/2006/11/12/ps3-disassembled-on-video/)

I want to get a 360 too! I just wish they would hurry up and get the 65nm version out. (I also posted some links to those rumors in my thread (http://www.thebestcasescenario.com/forum/showthread.php?t=6140)).

Plus the PS3 is from Sony... and I think Satan himself owns a major amount of Preferred Stock in that company and its subsidiaries.

Many PS3 users actually do report heat problems, even with the heatsink. It's pretty funny.
I don't think paying a goldmine for a ****ty product is funny.
I think it's hurting Sony's reputation with gamers.
Hooray for Wii.

Yeah, it's surprising really...Blu-ray is supposed to hold....what...like 8-10 gigs more than HD and it's worse? Weird.
The only reason I want a PS3 is for Metal Gear Solid 4.
But I won't pay 700 bucks for a system and ONE game.....dissapointing really. We'll have to see what happens--maybe the software engineers will come out with some great games.
Graphics aren't that big of a problem--there are plenty of software engineers who can get around that--look at Resident Evil 4 for the Gamecube. Good graphics for a system that was notably behind the others in graphics at the time.
Sometimes I wonder if we're all graphics whores though--I like to look at it this way.....A game has 3 main components....
1) Gameplay
2) Story
3) Graphics
I think they're in the order they should be too--let's face it, a game with horrible gameplay is just a movie. ;)

So, how would anyone compare the ps3 and 360? Ive been trying to find a good article that lists the pro's and con's of each, but all i find is things that are either overly biased or to complicated. Do they end up about even? Or is one noticeably more powerful than the other?

I think the only people who are pro PS3 are the raving Sony fanboys at the minute. You know, the ones who call you a fag if you actually try to communicate with them.

It mostly has to do with what games are made for each console. Even if one has much better graphics than the other, it's the ones with the better games that matters.
chedabob wrote a good summary of which is better hardware-wise in the "Halo 3 Tv Spot" thread (post #20) (http://www.thebestcasescenario.com/forum/showpost.php?p=59690&postcount=20)

That is so true. PS3 has been hyped up since the beginning. Also, the 360 has WAY more bandwidth because of the special EDRAM between the memory and logic, with an amazing bandwidth of 256 GB/sec. Also, 22 GB/sec can run between the CPU and GPU. Also, the northbridge chip is incorporated into the GPU, causing higher speeds and more bandwidth. The only thing that I don't like about the 360 is it runs in-order execution, slowing the CPU down quite a bit.

360 Is way better than ps ghey i mean ps3 its more powerful in everything but cpu speed but the bandwidth it much higher then ps3 so it levels out and the gpu is actually more powerful!

I'm more likely to buy a PS3 than an X-Box 360 simply because of Gran Turismo.
It was the reason I upgraded my PS to a PS2.
So if a new version comes out (I guess it would be GT5) then I'll be looking closely at my wallet.
However, if it comes out on X-Box....

heh forza on the xbox PWNs GT (any of them)
u get alot of the same tracks and more...... plus the xbox controller works alot better for fine tuned accel and such... the only thing i see that ppl might like about GT is there is a much larger car count.......but the downside to that... alot of them r repeats..... like 5 different types of civic heh no point i say.....
X-Box PWNs simply said :D

C'mon dude, you're not 8 years old. You can pull better English than that.

I've played demos of both. Boxing on 360, and basketball on PS3. I was blown away at the boxing. It was very realistic. Injuries, sweat.. Basketball on the PS3 was ok. Nothing really blew me away about it.

Thanks for the info guys. That helps clear it up a bit. I was here thinking that the ps3 had loads of power, but i guess its not as much as everyone tried to say.
The write up that was posted made some good points.
I was thinking about buying a ps3 because of MGS3 and Devil may Cry4 but its not worth it just to get 2 games
I play xbox simply because when i go to game parties we all play Xbox, im also seeing some good games come out for xbox. I guess ill stick to my 360 (hoping it doesn't overheat on me) and not worry about the ps3.
Thanks guys!
