Got a Logitech Dual Action Controller. The standard colors were boring :( So I spiced it up! Paints used: Metallic Black Krylon (the kind for plastic but with the specks on it) and Satin White Krylon. (The red wasn't used)

prior to painting, all parts taken spart and stuff:

Final layer of bottom piece of controller drying:

Top, Finished:

I might add a waterslide decal to where the Logitech logo used to be. The purpose was to find a cheap and quick way to make something more interesting. :D

Mod Lesson: The black metallic paint feels weird on the hands. Kinda like sandpaper...

Nice! That looks great. You might want to add some clearcoat, however - that will protect it from the oils on your hands, not to mention get rid of that sandpaper feeling.. :D

You'll want a few layers of clear to make sure you paintjob lasts forever.

+rep man. Good job on the paint. I agree with Ty. Put a few layers of clear on it.

Hmm, what do you recommend? I don't know much about spray painting, this is my first time using Krylon. Thanks a lot for the compliments though :) and ANY info on clear coats will be appreciated.

Well, since you started with Krylon, I would finish with the same brand. Just make sure you match enamel with enamel and so on. Also, I would give the color coats about a week to dry before putting down the clear. You don't want the controller ending up looking like my mouse (check my worklog)..

So would Krylon Crystal Clear be sufficient?

Krylon Crystal Clear is the best. I'd go with it for sure, it's all I ever use anymore. Great stuff.

Thanks for the tip. if that doesn't work I have another brand: testors. Comes with Dull and Gloss clear finishes, and works with plastic. If my store doesn't have Krylon Clear I'll use that instead. You think lacquer will work?

Cool paint job. I destroyed the last controller I tried to paint. It's a challenge. +Rep

Good work man, this just makes me all the more eager to paint my 360 controller. Let us now how it turns out after you get that clear coat.

I used a "Dull" clear coat, (not Gloss...) So it ended up the same, except it waaay smoother. Seemed more durable, too. I didn't want to use a gloss coat, because it picks up fingerprints more, and it wouldn't fit the kind of look I was going for. (I'm doing that for my next mod- my G5 mouse.) But it's drying right now in all it's glory!!!

Right now im in the process of painting that part of a keyboard that you rest your wrists on when you type a nice apple red. Got some clear coat too, im pretty nub at spraypainting but I love to do it though, I think im going to get into it more.

Im also spray painting the disc tray of my DVD-rom on a old computer the same colour, though I screwed it up the first time (applied too much at one time) Im going to try again. Disc trays are so easy to remove on Hitachi drives, just to clicks and its out.

Cool. Are you going to post pics?

Well its nothing special but sure I'll post a few, just one problem I dont know how, can someone quickly explain to me?

BTW the wrist rest came out better than I expected, its consistant and shiny.

I recomend uploading your pictures to an image host, such as Photobucket, Imageshack, etc. Then, copy your image's URL.

Then, click on the http://www.thebestcasescenario.com/forum/images/editor/insertimage.gif button when making a post, and paste the URL into the box that pops up, and, voila! You have images in posts.

Sorry about the repetitive photos, some of them came out better because I was playing around with the camera options.

Nice. What kind of clear coat did you use?

USERX15

Oh shoot, I forgot the name of it. I left it in the cabana in the backyard and its freezing outside right now, I'll let you know later. Anyways I have a problem. I did the whole keyboard the same color (excluding the actual keys of course) and for some reason the paint peals of really easy, it looks nice but it comes off. I mean if you give it a light scratch with your fingernail it will come off, what did I do wrong and how can I fix it?

You probably didn't let it cure (harden) enough before you started using it.

Let it sit for a few days to let it cure properly. Then sand it down and repaint.

I am not a paint expert (crazybillybob is though), but my guess is either 1) the temperature was not optimal for drying (I think it cures better in dry heat) 2) not enough time in between coats 3) maybe you didn't clean the surface good enough prior to painting, use soem mineral spirits or acetone to wipe off any oils left by your skin. Just make sure whatever you use won't interact with and melt the plastic, you should test it with a Q-tip on the inside somewhere to be sure it won't damage it 4) and possibly the paint and clear coat were not designed to work together, I haven't checked from the beginning to see what you used but I have had experiences when the clear coat I chose ruined my paint-job.

I'll bet that the color coats weren't dry enough before the clear was sprayed. That's exactly what happened to my mouse. Check out my worklog for pics. To save it, you'll have to sand everything back down to the primer, and then start over with the color. Give it a few days (I know it's hard) before you put the clear down.

Commando

Also you might want to sand with 600 grit, then prime, then 600 grit, then color coat. You need to roughen up the surface a little to give the primer and color coats something to stick to. Primer is very porous, but it still helps to smoothen it out and help adhesion when you sand with 600 grit. Clear on the other hand is designed to stick straight to paint.

Still, it looks good.

Hey I saw that screen on sale somewhere, I know cause the specs are exactly the same. Very nice though, can't beat the 1:1400 contrast ratio on my LG LT203W! hehe.

Vertigo: That desk is available at Office Depot. you can have two more shelves above the monitor as an add-on for the price of $44 (not useful for multi monitor freaks such as us since the supports might not allow for your monitors to be close enough together! Here's a link: http://www.officedepot.com/ddSKU.do?level=SK&id=863040&Nr=200000&N=2314926&An=browse

The CPU plate and drawer can be installed on the left or right. For me I installed both on the left and put my Thermaltake Armor full-tower on the right. (window's on the left.) P.S.: THe top is black tempered glass! :)
