Mitternacht - German for "midnight."

luciusad2004
01-28-2007, 05:52 PM
Lucius is a Latin name. We had to pick Latin names in my Sophmore latin class and i just liked the sound of it. I think i tacked on the AD2004 because i needed some numbers and stuff to get it in AIM. 2004 AD was the year i started using it so thats were that came from. I sometimes shorten it to just Lucius, i now mainly use the full form of it just so that my name is the same on every forum i go to

SgtM
01-28-2007, 07:13 PM
SgtM - I was a Sergeant in the Marine Corps, and M is the first letter in my last name. Sometimes I change it to SgtRick or SgtM_USMC. That was a fun one. On XBOX live I forgot to add the underscore so it looked like SgtMUSMC. People would butcher my name all the time.

xmastree
01-28-2007, 07:28 PM
Waaay back in 1980, my handle on CB was Christmas Tree (due to the number of lights on my car). When I first got online, to cut a long story short I had to choose a valid DOS filename for my username, so I chose xmastree.

samurai_crip
01-28-2007, 07:33 PM
Well when i was new to the interwebz i joined a site called Gangsterrpg & you had the choice of two gangs Crips or bloods and since i liked blue i chose crips then it asked me for a user name. Me being a Kendo Student at the time I put it as Samurai_crip since then i was made GFX staff and then later promoted to admin :D

Being such a well known member i used the user name every ware and it has just kind of stuck :D

Crimson Sky
01-28-2007, 09:20 PM
I've had this name since 1994 when I beta tested the first AOL app. Its from the U2 song "Even Better Than The Real Thing"

"We're free to fly the crimson sky"

Ronyx
01-28-2007, 09:21 PM
My nick started out it's life as Romanonyx. Why? Here you go:

1: Take your first name (Roman)
2: Take the first three letters of your last name (Ony)
3: Put an X at the end :D (X)
= RomanOnyX

Later this was too long for me and got a bit old so i changed it around. New method:

1: Take the first letter of your first name (R)
2: Take the first three letters of your last name (Ony)
3: Put an X (X)
=ROnyX

If you guys want you can try this with your name lolz. My friend got "Crapx" rofl. That was a good day =P

Slug Toy
01-28-2007, 09:35 PM
my name started out even before i was born. probably about 40 years ago now.

my dad and his friend used to write letters to santa every year... or rather they would all write on behalf of one of their friends. so "santa" would get about 50 different letters from different people with the same address, and they would always ask for the same thing: a slug toy.

so every christmas my dad's friend named rob would get about 50 replies from santa saying "dear cozy, santa's real busy this year but he'll try to get you that slug toy you want." and of course the names always changed... hed get replies to cozy, cozy crumpets, cozy cuze, pussy cat, and a bunch more.

i also get a kick out of moluscs in odd situations. i used to always draw squid destroying cities or getting fired out of big cannons at fat people. it was either going to be slug toy, or squid dithers... and i went with the name that had more history and a better ring to it.

Ironcat
01-28-2007, 09:40 PM
When I bought my very first ever computer, they included one of those free AOL disks inside the packaging.

The "password" it included was IronCat-17.

At the time, I had just signed up for Mindspring and I didn't know what the hell sort of user name I wanted so I used that...

...at the time I was also dating a Japanese girl who assured me that "Iron" and "Cat" were both very powerful words and by combining the two into my name, I was in turn blessing myself with that power...

...and so... 10 or 12 years later... here I am...

DRece
01-28-2007, 09:54 PM
:think:Well, My name has a interesting story. Long ago, I beta tested Helbreath which was the coolest beta game at the time. I didn't want to names that I used to chat with like phr33l0@d3r. So I took the word "Greece" -G -e +D =Drece, and used that to name my wizard. I liked the name so I added to the front of it when I need to the words Deadly Dice Drece. Deadly Dice is because of every chance that I take seems to go bad in a game, usually ends with massive firepower annihilating my character.:D

Silenced_Coyote
01-29-2007, 01:15 AM
I started out this name as "CuriouslyMinty" on Yahoo Chat oh so many many many years ago. Then it carried over to my gaming.. I honestly needed a name for chat and was watching TV (circa 94 or so) and an Altoids commercial came on, and it was the "Curiously Strong" mint. So CuriouslyMinty was my name. Here i am 13 years later, and I am probably going to get custom license plates (6-7 letters/numbers) Mine: MRMINT ; Liz's: MRSMINT

+ I love all things minty. I even drink Minty hot coco.

:D

-Jeremy

Will there be a JRMINT in the near future?

Anyways, about my names. I first used the name Ryu (first letter of first name and then the last name). At that time, I was watching an anime called Rurouni Kenshin (about a wandering samurai who now fights to protect). People called him Hitokiri Battousai, and Battousai for short, which was like his nickname. I'm not exactly sure what it translates to. So I came up with Battousai_Ryu. Which is seen in my sig.

Now I also take up the more recent name Silenced_Coyote. A friend came up with Silenced Wolf. I loved wolves but he already came up with the name. Then another friend came up with Silenced Fox. So in keeping with the Canidae family (which wasn't planned), I picked Coyote.

So there you have it for all those wondering why my sig doesn't match my name.

nil8
01-29-2007, 02:02 AM
I have two online handles, nil8 & Saltpork.
nil8 has been the name I've used for years & the one that is closest to who I am online.
I was around 13 or 14 and there was a band playing at a bar in my hometown. It was my first concert and the band's name was n.i.l.8.
I was so pumped from seeing a live show and doing some things that I can't mention on this forum, that became my handle and has stuck ever since. It's the name I have used on IRC, games, forums, websites and have contemplated getting inked into my flesh. I'm still planning on having a tribute to my online existence, I'm just not sure what it will be.

As for my other handle, Saltpork is a piece of food that is similar to bacon, but fattier and coated in salt to preserve and flavor it. 2 slices contain around 80% of the fat and 75% of the sodium your body needs in a day. It's not an everyday food or a modern one. It's old, it's bad for you and it used to be a staple of an American soldier's diet during the Civil war. I eat about a pound of it a year. I figure one piece a month used to flavor beans or other foods is safe enough to not cause problems. Eating it, and using it as my name, is me honoring the history of all the Americans who came before me.

Bucko
01-29-2007, 02:03 AM
I've had this nickname for about 15 years now. I got it in High School when my nickname of "Bucket" was shortened by others.

When I was really young and every one at school was getting an email address as major online email took off. I couldn't think of one so I just stuck the day and the months of my birthday at the end of my name for my email id thingy. So Simon born on the 27 of the 5. simon275.

Airbozo
01-29-2007, 12:30 PM
Airbozo = Sky Clown
I used to use Bozoair as well.

It started in the Navy when I was told to create a call sign or they would give me one. I had no clue what to use until I was requested to do some training on one of the helicopters for electronic warfare. I was so freaking nervous I was cracking jokes (something I usually leave to others) and when the Pilot asked if I wanted to get some stick time (after the 3rd or 4th flight) I agreed and quickly made everybody regret it. One of the pilots called me "the clown of the skies" and it stuck. Next time we were on the air together he asked how the "sky clown" was doing and all of combat and the bridge roared with laughter. It stuck. It also garnered a few snickers from everyone on that secure channel.

First time I ever used the moniker online was when Sierra came out with one of the first online gaming communities in late '89 early '90's. I signed up for the service just to play Red Baron and that was my name. I have used some form of Bozoair or Airbozo since, with the occasional "Richard Cranium" or "Pan T. Load" thrown in for anonymity.

Scotty
01-29-2007, 12:36 PM
ScottY = I started off with --scott--> on a forum then went on another and - and > weren't allowed so i went to ScottY. As Scott is my real name i think that mine is quite sensible. Some forums i use _ScottY_ or ScottY_ cus people stole my name.

If they are not teaching you about the rest of the world in high school, the education system in your state is worse than alabama (50th in the country). I know for a fact that all public education schools are required to teach you geography, including th Czech Republic. May be part of social science, but math? Might want to check on that before you get a big surprise! What grade are you in?

Ninth grade and I was joking abut the math thing they teach it to us theres just no full class for it.

hehe ok, 9th grade, I remember the trouble I got into in 9th grade (9th grade was still middle school in colorado), and I am happy it is long gone. I figured out by 10th grade how to buck the system _and_ still play the game. Funny how some of my friends never figured out how to deal with school. Now anything school related they absolutely fight, even when it is a good thing for their kids.

Airbozo

airbozo how was that heli flight ? :D

Best and worst. First time I went up I was puking out the door to the rest of the crew's amusement. It was fun though. By the third flight (my last) I had no issues except when they came in for a landing. They kept telling me not to look, but I had no choice. I could not tear my eyes away from the helo deck on my destroyer pitching and bobbing in the ocean. The second time was so rough, they dropped a cable on the ship, hooked it up to a specific tie down and the winch on the helo pulled us right into place.

The U.S. Navy. It's not just a job, it's one hell of a party!

d_stilgar
01-29-2007, 09:15 PM
When I first gave into getting an email address I was into Frank Herbert's "Dune". I wanted the name Stilgar because, out of the fremen in the book, Paul is actually a common name. Stilgar was taken on hotmail so I went with d_stilgar because D is the first letter of my real name, Daniel. For ease of remembering my name everywhere else, I kept it for everything else too.

If I were to change my name now I think it would have to have my first name in it. Having a goofy alias that doesn't really make sense is kinda not that personal. People read stuff and remember that it was posted by the person with the cryptic name. I'm pretty big into pirates and HL2 has got me hooked on zombies. ZombiePirate would be a little marble mouthed, and ZombiePirateDaniel would just be too long. PirateDan would be a good change if I were to make it, but then no Zombie incorporation. For the sake of saying all I would want with my name I would just go with LeChuck if I were to choose my name again.

CanaBalistic
01-29-2007, 10:03 PM
When i first started out on the internet, i used the name "One23Kid". That only lasted a short while as i was growing up.

I needed somthing new so i combined my location with my tendencies. Cana = Canada Balistic = Ballistic. Some times i cant use the hyphen because it makes my nick one char too long. Sometimes i forget this and my nick turns out to be Cana-Balisti.

In the case of this forum, my brain works a little faster than my fingers and i sliped up. I didnt even notice it for 3 or 4 months. Then i had to login again and couldnt. Duh!

Crimson, is there anyway to change my nick without making a new account? I know its possible on some forums but not all.

true true. so far i've only found one written account of Kabniel (or sometimes referred to as Habniel) actually curing stupidity in a person. Which happened a good many years ago. I just hope invoking the name every time i post something will 'bless' me.

Cagedconnerman

So, i was just wondering how you all came upon your screen names? I got mine while making an EA account for AOE2, I think i was around 6 or 7 when that happened, I typed in connerman (my dad always called my that) and that was already taken, so it suggested cagedconnerman, and i picked it, so thats been my screen name on everything for the last 7 or 8 years.

XcOM
07-04-2007, 01:07 PM
mine is from when i was at school, i was a helpful little boy that hacked the school main file server, gained access to all the data, and i used a program called X, through the COM port, and that was the first set of real hacking i did, For good though.

From then on i was known as XcOM for this, my mate and i came up with the name.

Mitternacht
07-04-2007, 01:08 PM
I used gigaglytch for a long time, about 6 years. It was nice, because it wasn't a real word so wherever I registered the name wasn't taken. lol

Mitternacht is german for Midnight. And because this is a real word it was unfortunately taken on Xbox Live. That's why I use gigaglytch on Live as my Gamertag.

Greco 101:Stupid people would always argue with me in class and they'd end up looking like a moron so I called it Greco 101.

BlackS3ven: 7 is usually associated with good luck and black, usually bad and/or dark so - Bad luck.

Gr3yAr3A: Not meant to mean "in between" but more like a state of confusion or unknown whereabouts.

Ryoken: My favorite mech in the BattleTech universe, not that anyone cares, but I had one of the things level an entire military complex and it's not even an assault mech, methinks it's a medium.

The x's are there due to that it's taken usually and put those there to make it different.

Helix666
07-04-2007, 03:57 PM
I have a slight attraction to the word 'helix', dunno why...
And, 666, because I wanted a number, and I'd just read Revelations ch. 13 verse 18. (I was looking for inspiration for some art.)

This calls for wisdom. If anyone has insight, let him calculate the number of the beast, for it is man's number. His number is 666.

And Helix666 is also my 'callsign' on Operation: Flashpoint when I'm online.
(Mainly getting my a$$ handed to me on a plate...)

Omega

Omega - The last letter in the Greek alphabet

OmegaM1A1 - Same as above, with "M1A1" at the end (I was thinking of M1 Abrams tanks, figured I'd put the A1 in there as well)

Frequency - I had been listening to the Tantric song of the same name and changed my forum name to this (on another forum). It's since stuck (for about a month)

TheBornOtaku - Derived from "TheBornSniper". I took up this name when I started watching Anime.

TheBornSniper - My old UT99 playername. If you can guess, I sniped. A lot.

Blindshot - My first UT99 playername.

BlindshotJZT: My UT99 playername after I joined JZT. I left soon after.

Blindshot2k3 - My UT99 playername in '03. Go figure.

[AE]hOt-sOup - My current UT2k4 playername. Fits in with my foods theme.

[AE]Floppywåffle - One of my older UT2k4 playernames.

[AE]Dr.Mayhem - One of my (many) BF1942 playernames.

[AE]Decimate - Another one of my BF1942 playernames.

{BTK}Otaku - BF2 name. I don't play BF2 anymore, however.

Digiburn - Short for Digitalburn. The name of my main character in WoW and my XBL account.

Digitalburn - I saw "Digitalfreeze" somewhere and just changed it. This is the name of one of my WoW alts, too.

Möscöw - The name of my Ice Mage in WoW.

Xanthangum - The name of my UD Rogue in WoW, it's an ingredient in most sodas if I'm not mistaken.

peer` - IRC alias (irc.rizon.net). Taken from the "Connection reset by peer" deal. "peer" was taken, so I use "peer`"

Seppukkakae - my IRC alias before peer`. Take "Bukkakae" and "Seppuku" and you get Seppukkakae. Taken from a Bash.org quote.

otku - my IRC alias before Seppukkakae. It's short for "Otaku" which is short for "TheBornOtaku".

Palm3onthego - my MSN e-mail address, registered it back in 6th grade when I was trying to get a dedicated e-mail address for my Palm 3.

User.ini - Name of the user settings file for the UT series. I used this for about 3 months on another forum.

Kyrksæterøra - It's the name of a town in norway or something like that. I dug it. A lot.

Frozen Nuts - One of the admins of another forum changed my name while I was asleep. I kept the name for a whole day. =D

christmahanukkawaramadah - Read it. It should make sense. (I used this during the winter holiday season)

£åügHîñg Øüt £öüÐ - Useless special character fun

narusegawa203 - my Yahoo name, taken from the anime "Love Hina", where the main (and female =/) character's name is Narusegawa.

No Otaku Dismemberment - the name I switched to when a bunch of people weren't happy with me. :D

Yeah, I've had a LOT of screen names.

alphastryk
07-05-2007, 08:48 AM
alphastryk: originally from mechwarrior 3 - an alpha strike is when you fire all your weapons at once. I had to shorten it to 10 characters for Starcraft on Battle.net way back when, and I changed the spelling to reduce the likelihood that it was already taken.

Elenril
07-05-2007, 08:51 AM
Elenril - My friend came up with this one when she was going through her Lord of the Rings Elvish obsession, and decided to give everyone in our group Elvish names.

Tuartari - Another Elvish name, only used for mule accounts on games. I didn't like it much, reminded me too much of tartare sauce.

Kibblequean - In yr 8, me and 2 of my friends (including the one with the Elvish obsession) were going through a strange obsession with cats. A kibble is a dog or cat food pellet. Me and my friend had a joint account on Runescape, and the username was PKQuean, so I just combined the 2 into Kibblequean.

Ketchypup - That was my first username on neopets, which was the first time I'd needed a handle on the internet, when I was a small child. My guinea pig (who has recently died) was called Ketchup, so I used a variation of that. I continued to use it for a few years until I started using Kibblequean instead.

Remy the Lemy - My name is Rosemarie, but no-one can be bothered saying that, so it was shortened to R.M., which was shortened again to Rem, which is what most people at school call me now, but my closer friends call me Remy. I started experimenting with variations - Lemming, Lemmington (like lamington), until my friend dared me to use Remy the Lemy. Needless to say, it didn't stick.

(But I would call you Rosemarie if I ever met you in person...)

chaksq
07-05-2007, 12:30 PM
My friends and I were major star wars geeks in middle schools and we found this formula to create "Star Wars" names for everyone. Mine is Chaks Qudan.

Later in my freshman year of high school I created a profile for my former car on Cardomain using chaks.

Then I needed a new e-mail so I tried using chaks for yahoo but it was taken. So I added the Q after it become chaksq. Now whenever I join a forum that is my username.

Other usernames I have:
-supercj89 (my nickname is cj I was born in 89 and I was like 10 when I made that one for my first e-mail/aim account hence the stupidity, although it is easy for friends to remember)
-jdmpencil (I like custom cars, I think the JDM trend is cool, and I had a mechanical pencil that was manufactured in Japan, used it for some random forum I made out of boredom)
-NumberOneFan (I created a fanforum for a local band I liked and was friends with, unfortunately the band has since broke up so I closed the forum and then the host deleted it)

NuKS
07-05-2007, 12:33 PM
NuKS -
When I was in the Air Force, I used to have to clean parts used in triple-ejector racks to release bombs. The chemicals that I was using ended up giving me cirriasis (I know I hacked up spelling that) on the hands, and since I worked around greasy dirty parts all day, the grime ended up getting between the cracks on my knuckes. I used a scrub brush on them every day and it would help clean them, but since my skin didn't flake off anyways, it made my hads look very dirty. My supervisor said I looked like I was dragging my knuckles on the ground all day, so he started calling me knuckles. It ended up getting shortened from knuckles to nuks and I've actually been called that ever since.

I pulled a bunch of sounds out of where the sun doesn't shine googled them and, apparently being the name of a belgian town there was enough stuff to hide in so I chose it.
