I'm doing my first mod and thought I'd put a mouse in a N64 game cartridge, but I'm not sure what to use to make the buttons and I'm after a couple of ideas.
I want them as small as possible, so as they aren't too obvious.

Here's some pics:

Hahaha...like the idea man. Seriously, that's going to get uncomfortable, but kudos. You could dremel out some buttons, or you could put them on the underside/inside so you 'tilt' the mouse forwards and left/right to click the buttons. This would take a lot of getting used to...but i think it would work pretty well.

Comfort isn't really a factor. It's more that I need to do a few small projects and learn from them/stuff them up before I do something bigger and more expensive.
I'd rather spend $10 on learning something (even if the end result doesn't work), than a few hundred on something that doesn't work.

Job done! :)

Here it is:

I used pop rivets for the buttons. You can see in the pic the bit I cut off next to a complete pop rivet. I used the top part as the button and with the flange it can't fall out.
Also in this pic you can see the remains of the card from the cartridge. I chopped it down so the cartridge still looks normal.

So there you have it, a fully functioning optical N64 cartridge mouse!

Airbrushing is cool, mesh is great, and the people who have the time, money, and skill to sculpt are friggin amazing!

But to me... _THIS_ is what modding is all about.

you could put an exact same mouse wheel and two buttons on the other end so that it doesn't look too obvious ;)

You could find a way to put a mouse in your keyboard... like, you move the cursor with your finger over the eye of the mouse, and find a way to be able to use the buttons. :P

slick idea! are you a mac user because you could definitely fit a nice mac mini inside the old n64 console and the refit would be minimal plus you could hide this disc slot under the flap at the front and hide 2 usbs in each of the controller ports or maybe three fire wires!

I'm a PC user. I don't actually have the N64 anymore, I gave it to my Sister a couple of years ago. I just had the game lying around, hence why I wasn't upset about modding it into a mouse.

Well, seeing you read the thread, I made the buttons from pop rivets.

lol correction on my last post. " Wouldnt Know What To Tell Ya About Buttons Tho." Supposed To Say " I Wouldnt Know What To Use As Buttons. Meaning I Wouldnt Be Able To Come Up With An Idea. I Did Read Ur Post And Is Actually A Cool Idea. Good Job.

lol! Thanks! It was one of those mods I didn't know if it would even work, then when it did and looked good I was stoked. I almost gave up a couple of times.
