Pinkeye = Conjunctivitis (inflammation of the conjunctiva)

Basically it is a red(or pink), inflamed, itchy, weepy, eye.

Unfortunately it is also one of the few diagnoses made by symptoms rather than testing, so sometimes it can take awhile to go away, because the treatment is not always the same.
GENERALLY... warm washcloths laid atop the eye to relieve swelling, and then a different warm washcloth to wipe away all the junk and you'll be fine in 3 days... generally.

Pinkeye is also contagious so it's a good reason to be sent home from work or school.

When I worked in the hopital we would frequently dab a small amount of soap in our eyes before important weekends... don't say anything, let someone notice your red itchy weepy eye and you'll get 3 days off in a snap!

damn that suXXors. I've had pink eye, its a bitch. Right now I'm down with some sort of "sinus infection" (so basically anything affecting from the chest up) and a little bit of the stomach flu or something of the like.

It's not always possible to know what is causing inflammation, and as you can see from GT40's outburst it can be quite frustrating as a patient when no one gives you a clear answer. Truth is, most of medicine is prolem solving by process of elimination. You take the most likely causes, run what tests are at your disposal to narrow that list, treat what is left on that list, and go back to the drawing board if the problem doesn't go away. This isn't always the case of course, some disease is easily identified. But when you are dealing with a superficial infection that is not life or injury threatening, in most cases you will be given the treatment for the most likely cause and intructed to return if it persists. Without examining you, I couldn't possibly offer my opinion on the cause, but I can offer you statistical likelyhoods. Adenovirus is a biggie this time of year, nasty viral infection that looks like hell but won't do much more than make you miserable for a while. If it's adeno, nothing will really help much, it's self limiting. If it's bacterial, antibiotic eye drops are a nice and quick solution. But only your doctor can make that determination. Good luck and hope you feel better soon!

I've never had pink eye. Although I have had an allergic reaction to poison ivy in my eyes and face. That sucked.

Aero, an easy method to help deal with the sinus infection is eating raw onion. It causes sinus drainage and will also help dislodge and allow you to cough up phlegm. Chew it completely and let it stay in your mouth, breathe in and out deeply without swallowing or inhaling the onion. Hooray for natural expectorants.

If you're taking antibiotics b4i7, make sure to eat yogurt as well. A common side effect of antibiotics is killing the good bacteria that live in your intestinal tract. Yogurt replaces some of that bacteria that's lost.

I know I'm going to sound like a mom, but get lots of rest, drink plenty of water and try to stay active. Exercise is often a way to make yourself feel better while ill with a minor condition.
