I took a test today at a Temp Agency to figure out how many keystrokes I type at. For Alpha (letters) I type 6720 per hour = 112 per minute with 97% accuracy. For numeric keypad I type 5460 per hour = 91 per minute with 94% accuracy. How would I translate those numbers into "word's per minute"?
They also tested my skills in MS Word and told me that a 75% and above is expert and I scored 76%!! 8)
How would you do?

Terrible.
I am a hunt and pecker...
Ok I know, the jokes will flow. I never really had to take any typing classes in school, so I never really learned how to type with the whole "correct" hand placement. I know where the fingers go and what keys each finger is "supposed" to hit, but I never really had a reason to master it.
My mother taught classes on the typewriter (you know, that pre-computer thingy with similar keys and a _real_ analog output). She was FAST!
My SO is also REAL fast on the keyboard. I swear I see smoke coming off the keys when she is typing. Plus, she can type from a document, Answer the phone, talk to me, AND she knows when she makes a mistake (if she makes one at all) and can fix it without even looking at the screen.
Congrats on the successful test! Are you bucking for a promotion or a new job?

My ex wife is a radiological transcriptionist.
She types somewhere around 170 words per minute... seriously...
I am a hunt and pecker too, I think I can do maybe 30 to 40 words per minute... but with just my 2 index fingers, that ain't bad!

i can probably do about... 50-70 words per minute if im on a roll. only problem is that i start typing faster than i can think and then the words meld together a lot. most of the time i probably do down around 30 words a minute. as for mistakes... i would say ive probably got a 20% error rate because of my stupid hands being too fast sometimes. they just never show up because i always check before i post.
sometimes for the heck of it i shift my hands one letter to the right or left and see what happens. it looks a little like this: yjod od ,u sdd s[r;;omh!!!!

70-85 wpm for me. Its fairly fast; getting homework done is a breeze :p. My mom has been working with PCs for 13 years, and she types 40 wpm.
When I get cranking, it's around 70 wpm with a 95% success rate.
If I'm not that into it or not paying much attention, I'm around 40 or 50 with a 80% success rate.
I don't look at my hands or even think about typing. I've been doing it since I was a kid. I remember a little dos typing program that used a dolphin. Good times.

accuretly i type at around 60wpm but if i really want to get something done i can go up to around 100-105 wpm but then i need to go back and correct some things
oh gosh. Typing!
What does that have to do with computers?
All the 1337 h4XX0r2 are using voice recognition these days.
That being said I'm slow. Maybe 40 WPM on a GOOD day.
Mario teaches typing, DOS programs, Mavis Beakon, and some professional program I used in a keyboarding class all failed to make me a fast typer.
Although I can use the keypad disturbingly fast, at my first and second grade school they thought that PC's would be used for accouting, so they had a DOS program running on orange monitors that made us learn the keypad. It was fun(and gehto) as hell.
But its ok. I'm pretty sure I can build a PC before most people even get MS Word open.

I touch type on my computer with literally about 3 or 4 fingers, really only my thumbs, my index fingers, and my middle fingers sometimes. I can do 85 wpm, however. I took a typing class and the teacher asked me to type for them real slow. They said my form was terrible etc. but then when I took the speed test I owned everyone. the second fastest kid was like 50 WPM. Since then my teacher never said anything. She can only type like 65.

Yeah I can type fast an accurate because in my schooling I had to type a **** load of essays and lots of notes in class. So I learnt to type quick real quick. I don't know how many wpm I can type though.

i've been doing online tests, but i don't think they're fair since i have to read any type at the same time. If i'm typing off the top of my head, im pretty quick, maybe 70 wpm, but typing from a screen, between 50 and 60. i used to take notes on a laptop in A-level history because the teacher would talk so quick. i used to sit and look at her while she talked to freak her out. she never thought that i was actually typing anything until people started walking out of the classroom with printed noted of everything she had said, absolutely down to the letter!
Then i got kicked out of history.... they all wanted me to carry on coming so i could take notes! (this was 7 years ago, when laptops were bulky and expensive gadgets!)
