that's pretty beast, but it isn't the first. I've seen some crazy antennae's and range boosters online. You can even get some decent ones on ebay!

I recently bought a wifi card off ebay. It is an Orinoco card that uses the prism 2.5 chip set. It is rated by the FCC for 300mw. The card has two antenna jacks and it came with a small antenna and a 7dbi antenna with a magnetic base and a long cable. Some long range wifi action.

its actually not hard to mod a wireless router as long as you know the circuitry and a bit about antenna physics. my brother knows both and can probably pump up a router to who knows how many watts of output power. he could even hook it up to his ham radio and broadcast internet around the world via repeater. i think its already done to actually run the repeaters themselves sometimes.

Not sure if they will get that thing past the FCC here in the states. You could do what these guys (http://www.engadget.com/2005/07/31/unamplified-wifi-distance-record-set-at-125-miles/) did.. I guess that would be considered WiFi "Unplugged" :D
