Nvidia is to have a cheaper DirectX10 video card seen here (http://www.engadget.com/2007/02/02/nvidias-geforce-8600-series-brings-dx10-without-breaking-the-ba/)

Details of NVIDIA's upcoming GeForce 8600 series have been revealed, with the 8600 GT going for roughly $150 and the 8600 Ultra demanding a $180 pricetag. Considering the fact that an 8800 GTX will cost you about $600 at the moment, this is good news indeed. The specs aren't anything to sneeze at, either, with both 8600 cards being built with an 80nm process and 300 million transistors. The GT runs at 350MHz, with 256MB of RAM to call its own, while the Ultra sports a 500MHz core, with 512MB of memory. The launch is supposedly timed to coincide with the R600's launch, will certainly steal a bit of ATI's thunder.

EDIT: If I ever make an HTPC, this is what I'll get. 8)

This is certainly good news for me, considering I have an budgeted upgrade planned in the near future. ^_^

I wonder how many stream processors each of those budget cards would have.

im pretty sure when it comes to directx10, if it can run it, it blows your 6800 out of the water.

not to sound rude or anything, that isnt my intent at all. but.. regardless if its a lower end budget card, its 2 gens newer than the 6 series, clock speeds far higher, and architecture is on a whole different level.

id swap my ultra for any dx10 capable card.

Hey i wouldn't feel bad. i bought mine a couple years ago, and i'm still not that disappointed with it. Sure its a couple gens old, but i can still play pretty much any game out there with settings on full and decent frame rates.

anyone have any idea on the ETA of the next batch of "budget minded" dx10 cards? im due for one

I have an old Gf4 Ti 4600. Not a bad card from its generation, but nowhere near todays standards. Runs WoW nicely though :-) Question is, what will be out in June/July when I start ordering peices for my new rig?

I wanna know if the NVidia 8K series gonna have a Dual Processor card like the 7950GX2. If yes then we are pretty much set for the next two years. All we have to do is plug in a second card in SLi.

I would guess so but you need like a 4000watt psu

Finally. A Cheap"er" DX10 card. Good stuff. To bad I am a poor university student now. Ahh my good old 6800gt has a lot more fraging left in it though.

It can't. ATI have not released a DX10 card yet. The only DX10 card on the market at the moment is the 8800GTX/GTS.

Hardware. It will say somewhere that it is DX10 capable. DX10 has certain specifications that only hardware can meet, and right now, DX10 cards are very few (Only 8800 series ATM).

has there been a date set yet for when dx10 comes out, or more vid cards that support them?!

By the way, the 8800GTS 320MB came out and it is selling for about $300.
