How well do these work compared to a UV cold cathode? Other than not lighting up the whole case.

I'm mainly working with LEDs in this new project, so i would rather stick with those and avoid cathodes if the UV LEDs will work.

i bought a package of ten 400-410 nanometer ultraviolet pre-wired leds from www.besthongkong.com for my rig so that i could light up the uv paint in the pc. unfortunately they would not illuminate the paint  but they are pretty bright and i like em try those just buy a different nanometer led

I haven't messed with them myself, but I Snakesz and Ediejo did a joint project for CoolerMaster on a Stacker that used quite a few of them. Here (http://forums.bit-tech.net/showthread.php?t=120542) is the log on Bit-tech. The project came out very nice and here are some example shots of the UV LEDs in action.

They seem to light up the UV reactive acrylic pretty well.

Hope this helps.

Google "Nichia" LEDs. They have high mcd output, and they have a wide selection of UV LEDs, color LEDs, and white LEDs (up to 100,000 mcd)
