So, I've been having this smallish issue for a little bit. It's really more annoying than anything else. Almost everything I've found with google searches points me to troublesome software that I don't have installed. So, here's what's happening. If I put a CD or DVD in my drive, the drive volume never updates, even if I refresh in explorer. The only thing that seems to fix it is a reboot, then it displays the correct volume. Anything with an autorun.inf will not autorun. I checked the autoplay properties, and all the CD drives (2 physical, 1 virtual via daemon tools) and everything is set to prompt me for an action. Even if the wrong drive volume is displayed, if I browse the drive, then I can see the files and launch setup apps or whatever is contained on the actual disk. Anyone else ever have this problem and know of a fix? Thanks.

I had this problem once. Actually, if it's what I think, it's easy to solve. Do you have 2 drive on that IDE? If yes, Switch your Master/slave drive.

Really? It's that simple? See, I was looking something more complex. I'll try that later. Thanks Sly.

I've had a problem similar with a thumb drive, but never a cdrom.
The way I found the technical info is I went into the error logs under administrative tools in control panel, took the error log and googled it.
You might try that.

So, how it turned out?

sly - didn't work
nil8 - nothing in event logs

I'll just live with it until my next format. Thanks for the tips though. +rep to both of you.

Should be able to do a basic windows repair. maybe windows Registry files were corrupted? Also could be the drive going bad or a bad IDE cable. have you tried switching out the IDE cable?

TweakUI lets you disable AutoRun, maybe you should try to see if it'll turn it back on?

Have you installed any burning programs lately? They might be causing your drives to not refresh.

Tried tweak ui, no problems with Nero.. uninstalled and reinstalled to be sure. No big deal, I'm just going to wait until my next format.

Let me do some digging--I ran into the same problem when I tried to install the Burning Crusade expansion for Warcraft.

After starting a clean install, I ran across a whole bunch of stuff that I didn't try.

Sounds like you've got most of these points covered (registry mostly) but I'll look nontheless.

Edit: No luck searching the tech forums over @ warcrack. If I can remember where I put my notes, I'll post em for ya.
