last night i got up from my computer to go check out the window,
and as i leaped over the scraps of computer parts and metal scraps

i cracked the hell out of my foot on part of a case, the thin chunk of metal
slid right in between my left little toe and my ring toe , if thats what you call it.

i jumped around for a while, swearing and stuff, and then i went to bed.

wehn i woke up this morening it hurt to walk :( so i informed my mommy.

and now she wants me to get a tetanus shot, and i dont want to.

i bettern not miss any of the super bowl. this weekends sucking nut right now

A tetanus booster takes a second and doesn't hurt. It's a necessary precaution, will take an hour out of your time and you will never have to think about it again until you stick yourself badly with metal again. Beats getting tetanus. Lockjaw is much less fun than a simple shot. You won't miss anything, just go to the doctor.

Clean your room. Or become more agile.

You only need a tetanus shot once every 7 years or so. You could take some anti-biotics insted.

I perfer to heal O-Natural. When it comes to infections and the like, what doesnt kill you only makes you stronger.

be a man and go to the bloody doctor, don't just sit there, if that thing starts to get out of hand, you could find your self with a bunch of more trouble

they will look at the cut
give it a clean, if they think is needed
give it a good dressing
and give the tetanus shot

thats all

lets just clarify here. did you actually cut yourself then? from what you wrote it sounds to me like you just whacked yourself real good.

honestly, i think getting a shot just for that is overreacting. i mean, the case is in your house, not exposed to anything too dangerous. cuts happen all the time and there arent many that end up real bad.

hell, i impaled myself last summer on a tree branch, right through my lat, and nothing bad happened. of course i had to pull the branch out, but that was it. no infection, no disease or anything, and i think what happened to me is a little worse than smacking your foot on a computer case.

so go get your booster shot if you want to or HAVE to, but i just think its pointless.

Last time i had a tetanus shot it wasn't that bad, and I am a total pansy. No kidding, I'm completely terrified of needles and doctors in general.

Someone above mentioned healing naturally. I read or heard a while ago that antibiotics are actually becoming overused. The problem is that the bacteria are adapting and become immune to our antibiotics. I guess what happens is people use antibiotics for every little cold that they get and then when some of the more serious problems come along the antibiotics aren't as effective as they used to be.

ya that pretty much covers it. all this antibacterial soap in the house, and treating every symptom ALL THE TIME is leading to some pretty big problems in the future. A) we're seeing an alarming rise in the number of bacteria such as MRSA (methycilin resistant staphylococcus aureus) especially in hospitals where there are quite a few issues with post-op infections. B) we're bringing up a generation of over-drugged and over-protected kids that really dont have the same natural resistances to disease as people used to.

its not good to be dirty, but its also not good to be 100% clean either because you deprive yourself of any exposure to things that can hurt you, so later in life those things can really mess you up.

ok to clear it up

I dont think its a big deal and i dont wana have to fix it up,
i think its better to go with out band aids and wierd healing pastes and stuff.

if you ask me its best to just let it crust over and heal by its self

its just my mom who is freaking out,

That is 100% false. Massive infections can weaken the endocrine system severely, causing permanent lymphatic damage. Ask GT40 about massive infections for a first person perspective. I'm sure Ironcat can give you more examples.

Tetanus isn't some mild condition that you can get over the counter drugs for. It requires medical professionals to fix.

What your friend probably had was either cortisone for the pain or some liquid antibacterial to kill off any infection before it starts. Think hydrogen peroxide.

People forget bacteria is natural, normal and everywhere. It's more a matter of understanding which ones pose real threats and which do not. Wash your hands after handling raw chicken, not the next time you touch a public door.

Another tidbit people forget is that the butt and genitals often aren't the most bacteria-ridden areas of our bodies. Our face and hands are. A person who does daily hygiene practices will have a cleaner butt than hands or face, think about that the next time you shake hands or kiss your partner.

Staph is a real medical problem, and has been for a long time. Staph bacteria naturally exist on and in parts of the body, it's only specific mutations that don't respond to antibiotic treatment.

People who get staph infections in hospitals become isolated immediately due to the ability for it to spread. Often, the negative pressure rooms meant for TB are used for staph now, due to the lack of TB cases and the laws requiring hospitals to have TB-safe rooms.
This is just info I picked up from some nurse practitioners I've worked with in a hospital. It could be wrong or an overstatement. I don't know, I'm not a medical professional.

Go get the shot, tell them you've been feeling sick and see what they have to say. The super bowl is over now.

Let's see what I can add to this... The kid woke me up and he is crying mercilessly so I will try and remember what I can. I have only actually seen it 2 or 3 times.

Tetanus is caused by a bacteria (I think it's called c. tetani or c. tetanii or something) that causes your skeletal muscles to rythmically and viciously contract. They say it hurts.
It is sometimes called lockjaw because the first symptoms usually affect the face and your jaw "locks" shut... seriously...
Then it goes all over the rest of your body and people think they have some excruciating form of paralysis.
For a mild example, stand up, point your toes and extend your leg as far as you can, now twist it like you're showing off your calves in the gym... hold this position for 5 minutes... now imagine every muscle in your body doing that all at the same time... for about a month

Tetanus is NOT caused by rust or dirt. However it grows best in a low oxygen environment (like a puncture wound) so that's why the old "I stepped on a nail" routine is an invitation for a tetanus shot.

The further away the infection is from your brain and spine, the longer it takes and the less chance to possibly infect you. If you had impaled something through your lat (the muscles on your back that cover your shoulder blade and ribcage for whoever it was that asked) and gotten tetanus, you'd most likely have died within a week with no treatment.

Tetanus boosters are supposed to be good for 10 years but since few people actually remember exactly when something happened 10 years ago, 5 to 7 years is a good overlap.

Tetanus shots themselves don't hurt much but they are notorious for aching for a couple of days afterward.

Going back to bed now, goodnight...

p.s. I just got 4 free computers (and one of them is a shuttle) will post pictures and specs later.

Tetanus shot = nothing. I think it had to be the easiest shot I've ever had to take. Just don't make a big deal out of it and relax your arm. The only time it stings is when you tense up. Tetanus is one of the worst diseases (next to HIV, Botulism, and Smallpox [now eradicated]).
