So yah.. I'm building a Theater. Here goes nothing......

The Room:

The Seating:

I'm going with lazyboy Theater Seats..

http://www.la-z-boy.com/ourfurniture/product.aspx?pid=100

They are really sweet..

Here are my renderings.. <--not the best , if anyone can make them exact, HELP!!

The Idea...

Ok.. The room is going to have a 6" raised back section in the back of the room. Front Projector onto a screen etc.. The room has the Block Glass windows on one side and they will be blocked by fabric. (totally blacked out room).

Let's fill the room...

Wicked cool man, maybe you should color your chairs white so there are viewable in the black room. I wish i could have a theater?
what type of projector are you going to purchase, or are you getting a big tv?

Is that SketchUp you are using?
As to the theater, I am assuming that you are using a data projector to display the image on the wall. In that case where are you going to put your computer so that it is easy to use, change movies etc? Also what about your speaker system? I am assuming that you are going to have at least a 5 speaker system. The seats are really nice. But I am confused as to what you want us to help you with. Are you just showing us how you are going to be using your computer in a practical way or are you asking us for advice as to the way you should set up your system etc?

I really have to look in what projector to get. The room will only be viewed in complete darkness and I want a HD projector. The more crisp the better. Price really isn't too much of an object, but the difference in quality has to be worth the difference in price if you know what I mean.. Any suggestions for an HD projector? Preferences over DLP , LCD etc...??

Yes I did use sketchup. What I want help with is drawing the chairs as a model. I suck at detailed models. I can do a room (as you can see) pretty well, but the chairs I did really don't look like the real thing. There is a link to lazyboy's site with pictures of the seats and a pdf spec sheet for sizing. I was curious if anyone was good enough at sketchup to do the front row and backrow configs I picked out etc.. I got the size right , but it's just not the real chairs. I will running 7.1 DTS the corner cabinet will be either for DVD storage, or a small memoribilia cabinet for autogrpahs a grammy etc..

The closet will house all the a/v equipment (minus the projector which will be roof mounted) I'm thinking 2 glass doors tinted with ambient lighting inside the closet, with slide out media racks.

Woah, very nice.

Alright..a few things I may add.

Make sure you have some sort of ambient lighting. It would not be nice if say the power went out and you were left in a completely dark room. With that said, maybe semi-illuminated paths and stuff? Maybe ambient lights on the roof? Also, see if you can pick up some of those floor illuminators they use in movies.

Make sure you don't have superhuge speakers right behind the ears of the back row, or run them at somewhat low volume.

Also, see if you can have a control console. It would be sort of a pain to walk into that room every single time just to change a DVD or something. Perhaps have a tiny little system kiosk thing?

That side room isn't a room persay, it'll just be a media closet , kinda like the glass doors on some entertainment centers. The kinks on that will be worked out once we actually have the room built (the house is still a few months out) The ambient lighting is great, but ambient doesn't mean powerless, if power goes out, you're SOL. I plan on doing ambient tubes behind the screen (offset the screen 1" from the wall.

Very nice idea, are you going to project onto the wall or a dedicated screen?
