I've done some simple mods on my computer that don't compare to some of the incredible stuff on this site, but I have found one thing that can make parts faster than some other processes.
If you need some "busy" looks on some areas, like piping, heat fins, and strange designs, start shopping at any store that sells parts or items in the thick plastic vacuum-formed plastic shells that encase everything from China, and a lot of our own manufacturers. I found a major component to place on the side of my Halo 1 computer in the form of the case that holds an XBox 360 cable set at Target stores. It says XBox 360 right on it, and is done in relief so you can spray it. I also got a 6 pencil set case to mimick piping, and craziest of all, some Pepperidge Farm Individual Serving cookie trays that look like manifolds when sprayed with hammertone green and gold accents.

While some of the structures of these things are fragile, they can easily be filled with Bondo or foam to reinforce the shapes. Just as in kit bashing, there's a whole world full of possibilities out there at the hardware stores, shopping malls, and auto parts stores. These items quickly build major form to a flat side of a computer case, and since most are transparent when discovered, can be back-lit when painted appropriately.
