I've needed one for a while, and finally got round to buying this (http://www.7dayshop.com/catalog/product_info.php?products_id=101997).

It arrived today, and very lovely it is too. Does what it says on the box, and works with my external disk (which the laptop's single port couldn't handle). It's heavier than I expected, which gives a nice feeling of quality. It's very nicely made from brushed ally and has two non-slip rubber strips along the bottom edge. On the table it was possible to plug in a connector without holding it down. There's a bright (rather too bright, TBH) blue LED just above the power socket, which comes on with or without the external power.
If you're looking for gadgets, I can recommend that site, they have some amazing deals. I've used them a couple of times, I have one of these (http://www.7dayshop.com/catalog/product_info.php?products_id=100315) too. £3.99 for a card reader!
They're honest too, e.g. a 2GB keydrive (http://www.7dayshop.com/catalog/product_info.php?products_id=101810) (how cheap is that?), from the description:
"Please note: The loop at the rear of the key drive is not suitable for attaching to a key ring and can either damage the key ring or the key drive."
