For some reason, I don't think magnets and electronics will work too well.

All electrical currents create an electromagnetic field, if you disturb this, bad things can happen.

ya i know ...

but it would still bee cool

i was also thinking that this would be completely crazy
if you actually put a fan inside there and made a full out hover craft mouse

I've been hearing that it is an april fools prank or something of the sort. *I can now confirm this, as I just attempted to "order" one. Click the add to cart button and you'll get a message saying something about april fools. :sigh: Thats kind of disappointing.

Someone should get a bunch of magnets and some super glue and build their own. It might not work due to the effect that magnets have on electrical and metal containing equipment, but it would be pretty neat if you could get it _realistically_ working. Meaning it would have to work just as good or better than the best gaming mouse that you can buy right now. Otherwise, the reason behind having a "hovering mouse" would be defeated. But then again, having a hovering mouse that had all the kinks and bugs worked out would be kind of fun to show to family and friends.

Whats next? Hovering keys? I'll just stick with logitech products for now.

yeah. That was an April fool's day prank.

But it would be cool. However, you would need some strong magnets just to counter balance the weight of your hand alone.

However, the concept of a "hover" mouse that hovered like a hover craft just might be doable. I'm building a hovercraft pretty soon (I know I have way too many projects..), and the concept is simple. Maybe next weekend when I have some time I'm try and make one.

in 9th grade i made a model of a magnet levitation train for my science class.

it was kind of cool, i figure it would work, you just need a big magnet for the bottom, and they are expensive as heck

what you need is neodymium is a lot stronger than normal magnets, so you can use a smaller lighter compact magnet that has more force to it

well what threw me off was it said 6000dpi OPTICAL if laser is only 2000dpi then something is up (unless it better to have lower i wouldn't think soo)

and its just be but i don't like the idea of having a strong magnet in my hands for a long time as i am paranoded that the blood would collect as there is a small amount of iron in it but its just me!

Apparently Dr. M.T. Santwani disagrees he says magnets can heal--as I read on
this guy's page. (http://www.indiangyan.com/books/magnetbooks/art_magnetic_healing/how_magnetheals.shtml)

I'm not entirely sure that I believe in it though--I've never heard of healing anything with magnets.....................

that magnetic healing crap is BS!! as is that mouse sadly :( 1cm off the desk would degrade the light so badly that it would be jittery and crap anyways. try holding your optical mouse 1/2 cm away from the desk and check out the results.

Someone was building a mouse that had a fan in which cooled your hand. if you could add a skirt to the mouse and a small air filled pocket around the outside, then get a powerful enough fan to create a cusion of air underneath, you could create a sort of hover mouse. you could even use it over a water mouse mat! i think the sound from the fans would drown out whatever you were doing on your pc anyways!

I use the Microsoft Hoverboard, but it is really a pain to type with.

Heh, that's hilarious, both the "hoverboard" and that photoshopped picture of a mouse onto a raft, heh heh... I use the hover lawn mower, although I must say, it does a flat out horrible job of mowing the lawn... and hills are a challenge.

No, those are from last year. I remember discussing them on TBCS a year ago. Man, time sure flies. I'm going to go reflect. my year has been too busy to stop and think about life lately.
