I'm quite sure that most of you on here don't have much experience with handhelds, but for those that do, what are your opinions on this (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16858103006) one (http://www.shopping.hp.com/product/handhelds/handhelds/1/storefronts/FA782AA%2523ABA)?
It has pretty much all the features I need, although the next model up (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16858103005) would be nice, this one is within my budget, and hopefully my parents allow me to get it.
Before you go and start talking about this, that, and the other thing, at the very least I need an organizer/calender/video player, etc. for school... not really for videos though. I need something that beeps, and has other features so that I don't get annoyed by it. I'm probably also going to buy/make a hard case for it too.
Tell me your opinions, experienced or not. Oh, and make sure you looked at both links up top for the one I'm (hopefully) getting.

Just buy a decent mobile phone and you get all the features you want plus a phone would have better battery life.

Pfft, and a paid subscription. I'll wait until I start driving for that.
EDIT: Sorry if that appeared rude, I'm just stressed and tired. But seriously, surfing the web on a handheld is better than on a phone... phones are, IMO, for calling people, not really anything else... I like the combos, but in a phone? I'll be charging this thing nightly anyway...
ajutz,
Check out this phone (http://www.palm.com/us/products/smartphones/treo700w/).. it's the Treo 750. A friend of mine has it, and it's very much sweet, both as a phone, and since it's running windows mobile, as a hand held pc.

It's pretty cool, but I need just a Handheld... one of my relatives that's close to our family had a phone/PDA combo thing, and it's batteries ran about six hours total... and I'd rather have two separate devices anyway. Say I lose one, it doesn't have everything, and if it's the phone, who cares? I'm gonna get a cheap one anyway... and if I lend the phone to someone, the urge to steal it will be less.

i've been using an hp rx3715 for about 2 years now and i love it. its my email/mp3player/internetsurfer/thing to play when in class.
first off, if you buy this then get an extended "HP" warrenty.
i have had to send my ppc back 3 times now (not there fault, just me over using it) and every time i deal with them it is a pleasure.
the one your looking at should be a pretty good product, i would never buy a ppc with a cpu under 400mhz (under that and everything lags).
ram and storage looks good, and it has expandable memory good good,
and a nice battery.
well i guess all i can really add is that you buy a big sd card (2Gb+) and the docking station at the same time as yopu buy this, trust me you will miss them both.

Look, this is about the one I posted. That's the one I'm looking at. WHAT DO YOU THINK ABOUT THE ONE I ORIGINALLY POSTED??? Seriously, it has what I need, and is within the price range...

I hate Palms too, they're like the Mac of handhelds, their good for the non technologically talented, but the Windows based handhelds are awesome... so, what do you think about this handheld? Seriously, nobody has said anything about the one I'm looking at. Really.

I thought the iPhone was to be a Mac handheld...
Anyways, Windows Mobile 6 (http://www.engadget.com/2007/02/11/windows-mobile-6-out-supports-new-resolutions-too/) is out so get a newer handheld instead of something as ugly as that HP "thing"
Pick something else instead such as one of those Palms above (but wait until they have WM6 soon) and other companies will have new handhelds very soon.
By the way, why do you hate Palms? Is it because they're small, sleek, and work good? If you are just biased that's fine but don't bash other companies' good products.
EDIT:
i would never buy a ppc with a cpu under 400mhz (under that and everything lags).
Just like you wouldn't buy a (PC) processor under 3.0ghz, right? Processors can still be fast yet still less in ghz, as shown by Intel's revolutionary Core 2 Duo.

The ones you are looking at look big and ugly.
re: the one you're looking at
I like the specs overall. Glad to see that Bluetooth and 802.11b/g is builtin. Room for expansion is good with the memory card. The only thing I'm not sold on is the looks, but hey that can be changed right?

That's kinda out of his price range but it is the nicest one I've seen.
EDIT: Microsoft has some great links to pocket pcs on their site! (http://www.microsoft.com/windowsmobile/pocketpc/default.mspx) Here's an HP one that they're promoting. (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000AR95EA/qid=1133825251/sr=8-1/ref=pd_bbs_1/102-3440770-1066506?n=507846&s=electronics&v=glance) (And guess what, it looks just like the Palm ones! So what is your problem with Palm again?!)

Thanks Redundant and sgtm. I don't like Palm because of the OS, I have an old Cassiopeia, but the backlight died and it'll cost too much to replace, and it's archaic anyway... it has Windows on it and I just like it better...
The one that they're promoting is nice, but has a 300mhz CPU instead of the 400mhz on the one I was looking at. About the OS, you can upgrade it, my dad did that with his iPAQ, and I thought that was good, I can always do that if need be...
I have a Core 2 Duo, if that's the dual cores in one CPU... it's awesome, they should implement those in handhelds... that would be cool.
EDIT: The Mobile Media Companion that I'm looking at is small, it only has a 2.8" screen, and is probably like 4"x3" or something... I don't need something huge, just something reasonable that I can use as a calendar, word processor (might buy a keyboard for that), etc. and portable entertainment.

EDIT: I just looked at that small PC from the other thread, that thing is nice, but about 5 to 7 times my budget... I can only dream for the future now...

I still think you should get something else. I actually did find something else; it has a Marvell 520MHz processor and nVidia GoForce 5500 graphics (YES, dedicated graphics!) I'm assuming you will be able to play some pretty good looking games. There's also a screen with a resolution good enough for DVDs. It's almost $800 without a contract ($330 w/ one) but I think it would be well worth the money. Here's the link. (http://www.engadget.com/2007/02/19/sharps-em-one-a-dual-sliding-pocketpc-with-HSDPA-and-WiFi/) It has a keyboard built in too so that is a plus. It is supposed to be out in May so if you need more money you have time to save up...

Looks cool, but I need one soon for school to use as an organizer and for notes... I don't need a high end handheld... I'm planning on getting Space Trader for it, so that should be entertainment enough. ;) I might listen to music and watch videos too though... from practice on an older handheld I had, I got quite adept at typing with the on screen keyboard. What do you mean by contract?
EDIT: That thing looks like a great graduation gift, hint hint (to family members though)... man, oh man, I'll have to see if they can't get me one for college, I could come up with plenty excuses to get one of those. ;)

I thought it said it in the link...anyways: it's a phone too (I think...) or that might be for the Internet when you're not near a wifi router (using the cell phone towers for internet)

Well, the one I posted has been ordered and shipped, it should be here tomorrow, and if not tomorrow, then hopefully Saturday. Oh crap, I just remembered that I have work at about the time they deliver. CRAP. Ahh well, patience seems to be the key virtue here...
EDIT: Oh, just read your posts Foxtrot, didn't even see them, too many replies + being rushed = not paying enough attention, heh heh, I'm gonna use my 256mb card for now, I'll see if I can't get the better card and docking station as gifts. ;)
Thanks for the opinion, even though I read it late, heh heh...
Oh, and I ordered it from Newegg with the next day shipping, it was the same price as HP had with the better shipping. It has the HP warranty on it along with Newegg's 30 day replacement policy. I'll probably try to find a hard case for it... Staples (American office supply store) might have that...

This is a Computer moding site. One could assume that the person viewing it will own a computer, or at the very least have access to a screen bigger than 300 pixels.
